It will be interesting to see what the hawks do. They will want to resign Marvin and they have to resign Bibby because AC Law sucks terribly. So Marvin and Bibby will take all of there cap space. If someone offers Childress the MLE I dont think they match.
why was hakeem called "the dream"??"

Because it rhymes with 'Olajuwon'.

Good point...I was thinking over the '05 guys, but couldn't think of anyone between 'guaranteed to get paid' and 'not worth a dime'. We'd have to overpay considerably (Atlanta's cap will be in very good shape this off-season), but he's the type of player worth making a run at with a fistful of dollars.

I forget...
Is it Marvin or Shelden with the ginormously large forehead??

Either way, the Raptors have a history of having players named Williams play for us, so that alone should be a huge draw.

Marvin is the good player. sheldon is the one whose wife is a better player than he is

This trade idea is garbage. Yes cap space at the end of this year is great, but I'd only consider this trade if somehow I KNEW we were lottery bound.

a few player ppl neglected..i think its a good possibility that j crawford will opt out for a new deal...i would lov to sign m.almond cheaply...childress can still come back and be signed...chris anderson as athletic -shot blocking back up c/pf...quite realistically we can sign childress to something like 4 yrs/30 mill...almond at 3yrs/8mil...anderson @ 2yrs/5mil...but this can be done with our current expirings and a dump of JK..if BC can unload JK for an expiring..next season we can be better

cb
childress
almond
caldy
key bench:jo/ukic/anderson/graham
and still get a chance at a lower tier fa to sign along with bosh for 2010.....

and then make a run at Prince, JHoward, Butler..we can land one of them...plug them at the 2/3...we would have a great starting 5 and $ to improve the bench, which would have good young players-ukic/almond..a great vet in anderson..hump..adding a 3 and a depth 5 to the bench would make us a contender...for yrs to come

Not if he becomes a superstar and averages 28 points per game in that least season,
Then he will opted out and go for a six year max deal.

I think we have virtually no shot at Marvin Williams, ATL will be way under the cap and even if they resign Bibby, it will not cost them more than they are paying him this year (15,5M$), maybe something around 10-11M$ seems reasonable for Bibby so they will match any offer Marvin will get unless it's something wayyyy too much but it could be a mistake to overpay Marvin IMO.

I really like the idea of making a huge push at Odom IF we have cap space.

I don't think the Knicks would give us 2 expirings and take on Kapono's deal, they would do it only if we take Jeffries instead of Rose, they would need to add something else to sweeten the pot though (1st rounder).

If we cleared $20 mil in cap space . . .

Throw bigger money at Marvin than they are interested in spending - be willing to overpay - say ~12

Then throw fair market value (or a bit over) at Childress ~ 7 mil

The idea is to present the "fiscally responsible" hawks with the following options:

1) Overpay for Marvin, don't match Childress
2) Don't overpay for Marvin, match for Childress
3) Overpay for Marvin, match for Childress
4) Don't overpay for Marvin, don't for Childress

How do these translate for the Raptors?

1) Reasonable contract for Childress who starts at the 3
2) Overpay for Marvin but get a high quality 3
3) Get nothing
4) Fill both our starting 2 and 3 spots, overpaying for the 3

I like any of these options.

I think the Raptors need a 2-3 perimeter guy who can make 3s, not a 3-4 tweener.

Why wouldn't we just trade for Marion instead?

Ding Ding Ding!

Riley loves a defensive minded player like JO. And will love even more the ability to have 2010 capspace to chase a partner for D-Wade.

We get a rebounder and defensive stalwart at the 3 who would LOVE to be told that he needs to create his own shot.

Do it.

JO for Marion and James Jones works in the trade checker.

Jones is signed for 4 years and likely would be a contract Miami wouldn't mind moving. Fits our team by being an above-average three point shooter.
