A little? I think a lot of people expected him to be in the running for ROY. Putting up near 20 ppg and such.

Not scoring 9 ppg on God awful shooting percentages...

DeRozan stiff? How the hell is DeRozan stiff when attacking and drawing fouls requires a lot of movement and adjustment of the body in the air which DeRozan is great at?

Anyways, the team needed an athletic wing at the time, so I'm happy with the pick.
Basketball is like poetry in motion, cross the guy to the left, take him back to the right, he's fallin back, then just J right in his face. Then you look at him and say, "What?" - Jesus Shuttlesworth

His ts% is fine @ .526 for a 20 year old, give him some time. Dude is a future 20/5/5 player.

Naw he's been playing good. If he was getting starting minutes he'd probably have around 12 PPG right now. Not bad at all.

Prospects his age often take multiple years (The third year is often the biggest jump towards stardom if it's at all possible) so if any of you are down on him this soon... I don't want to be around next year when he's still struggling in certain aspects of the game.

Definitely not. I love what I've seen from him so far this season.

Why would anyone regret drafting DeRozan?

He's learning fast and playing well, what more can you expect from a rookie? By next season he will be much improved.

Not at all. He has played well as a rookie, and has potential to help this team in a meaningful way long-term. No regrets here.

The kid is only 19 years old and has lots of potential. Sure we could have got a player who may have produced more this year but it's not all about their rookie season, it's their future as well

I'm convinced there is some weird chemical in the drinking water these days that makes people over-react. Here are some points to ponder.

DeRozan has just turned 20.
He has played a total of 39 games.
He was drafted based on potential.

This leads me to my point/question. On what planet is 39 games enough time to regret drafting a player that has only scratched the surface of what he can be?

These crazy DeRozan threads are massively pre-mature in my opinion. Would you same people have given up on Kobe Bryant after he averaged 7.6 PPG his rookie year?

Not every player provides immediate dividends - some you have to invest time and patience.

^ I wondered the same thing, but I'm assuming the OP is not questioning DeRozan's skill level, but rather trying to see if some of the other draft picks are better fits for our team in hindsight. If you read his premise, he even states he sees DeRozan being like Wade; in this instance, you may be the one over reacting.

No but I would have liked BC to shop another pick. Casspi or Blair would've been nice in this team.

I can conceded I'm probably in the wrong. My post was just a general summation of my feelings regarding the recent series of DeRozan threads where rather rash and pre-mature conclusions have been jumped to.

I regret taking Derozan. Its clear at 20 that he has no future ahead of him.

Not at all, but I wish we had drafted Jennings' 55 point game or Blair's 20/20-ish performances instead so we don't have to have these ridiculous threads.

Michael Jordan wrote:
After seeing guys like Blair yesterday, you might reconsider what we did.

Imagine a 3 man rotation of Bosh Bargs and Blair. Bosh or Bargs missing and Blair snagging the offensive rebound something he loves to do and something we need.

Or having Ty Lawson to steal Joses starting spot and instead of signing Jack we sign Marvin William or Dante Jones.

Not in the least,
We took an athletic coach-able 20 year old who has slowly improved in the areas he was terrible at while playing at USC.

The hindsight argument of "should we have taken Lawson or Blair etc etc" is interesting but its not as though DeRozan has shown a total lack of basketball fundamentals like say Gerald Green did.

What annoys me about about Blair is that we could have had a second pick in the draft, and it very well could have been Blair. We should have taken a risk on him and we didn't.

Having him off the bench under the basket would have certainly address a major need on this squad.
