I Still Believe CB Will Stay: Do You?

Post#1 » by Rapsobsessed7 » Thu Mar 25, 2010 4:42 pm

everyone on here talks about Bosh and Miami. However Bosh has said time after time he doesnt want to play second fiddle and feels hes good enough to be built around.

He also notes that “things you like and dislike change daily,” which Bosh says makes it “impossible almost to not only predict the future but predict your feelings” when free agency is still more than four months away.

Bosh, though, did have some encouraging words for the Raptors’ edgy fan base to balance out the open-to-interpretation nature of those quotes when he sat down Thursday to tape an interview for ESPN Radio’s “Meet The All-Stars” show that airs Saturday night at 6 p.m.

First Bosh scoffed at folks who think he’s already made his decision to leave the league’s only Canadian franchise.

“He’s gone, it’s over, it’s done,” Bosh said in a mocking tone.

Then Bosh revealed that he’s not necessarily interested in playing anywhere that he’s not the clear-cut franchise player.

“That’s a good question,” Bosh said when asked by ESPN The Magazine’s Ric Bucher if he’s bothered by the widespread perception that he’s determined to follow either LeBron James or Dwyane Wade by signing on with one of the teams they choose starting July 1.

“It’s funny you say that, because I was thinking about it. I was just looking at what people say and it’s like, ‘Chris is going to go here and play with him or this, this and that.’ I’m like, ‘Wait a minute.’ I feel like I should be built around. And maybe that’s just my ego talking, but I feel that I’m a very good player in this league and I’m only going to get better. So … maybe we should be getting somebody [in Toronto].”

http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_ ... ild-around

So you have to look at teams who dont have a star where he can be the man still. Who is that. New York? He isnt going there to be a rebuilding team and have maybe a FA sign there. Doesnt go with the notion of him being the franchise player. The Bulls? Well Derrick Rose is becoming a star and that could be a possible destination but you have to look at something.

Rose
Hinrich/Henry
Deng/Johnson
Bosh/Gibson
Noah

team has no one to spread the floor. They would have huge problems IMO. Might be solid defensively and rebounding wise but they would struggle IMO with the lack of outside shooting. If someone doubles Bosh who does he kick it out too? Derrick Rose is the best 3 point shooter there... Weve seen Bosh plays he relies on spacing on the floor so how can he do anything if teams just pack the paint like Utah did last night against him. Calderon wasnt able to burn them and they continued doing it it would be the same thing IMO.

Also he isnt leaving 30 million on the table. No sane person would leave 30 million on the table to play with another team when you likely wont see 30 million again with the new CBA looming around the corner. Now he needs the Raptors then to agree to a S&T to get him there and that would take Gibson + Picks + Maybe Johnson. Then you look at that team and its one injury away from being in the lottery, why would you go there?

The ONLY team i see as a possible destination that could sign Bosh outright. Is the New Jersey Nets. They would have Wall/Lee/Harris Trade/Bosh/Lopez. Thats a complete team and Bosh can be the man there.

Then you have what Toronto has to offer CB.

1) The most money,
2) close friends (Jack and could sign Powell),
3) franchise player, face of the country with Sundin + Halladay gone,
4) have 10 million in expiring contracts to use in a trade 5) the ability to use the MLE this summer to improve the team
5) BC has always tried to make the team better for Bosh what has Miami done for Wade? Look at the amount of moves BC made to try and accompany CB while Riley sat on his ass and did nothing.
6) Young players with potential, Derozan + Belinelli + Weems + Johnson all have good potential and Derozan can develop into a good wing player but not someone who will take the spotlight off Bosh, he would be a Robin to Bosh.
7) Bosh is 26, he isnt starving for a ring. He should look at Carter and T-Mac and how much winning they had after leaving Toronto. Did they ever win a ring, no.
8) CBs dad told Chris to resign in Toronto, its the best for him (att all-star weekend in Dallas)
9) CB loves the city said he couldnt wait to get back to Toronto (when he was in Dallas)
10) BC said the roster wont be the same when CB has to make his decision. meaning hes going to make moves to accompany him so why would you want that. You have a GM that always tries to build around you vs Riley who sits there and is hoping to sign a max FA which he probably will but he hasnt done anything to help Wade out so far.

Personally as much as this losing streak hurts. If we make the playoffs which is going to be hard because:

raptors next 3: Denver (home), Bobcats (away), Miami (away)
Bulls next 3: Miami (home), New Jersey (home), Pistons (away)

so its going to be a dog fight but lets see what we can do. The playoffs are a second season and maybe everyone will have a clean slate and their confidence back. Thats what this team needs again their confidence. If this team can beat a good team like Denver/Utah IMO it would do wonders for them. Thats what we need to get back to where we were in the season. Do we beat Cleveland, no likely not. However next year we have trade assets, our team if Bosh stayed could potentially be better than any team he would want to sign with as a FA.

What do you think?

Not only is he not going to stay, I don't think he should stay; both for himself, and for Toronto.

Lots of factors for him to want to stay here. But I just don't see him happy here anymore. There's only so much losing he can endure before wanting to change the losing and inconsistent environment around him to a winning one.

I would love for him to stay, he's the franchise. He's shown us time and time again, he's the bread and butter of this team. But I don't think it's in him to stay and risk the rest of his career here.

And OP, you honestly think a core of Deng/Bosh/Rose/Noah/Gibson is going to struggle?? Have you seen our core? That Chicago team with Bosh + whatever else they sign is going to be a title contender for years to come.

But I'm sure Bosh will stay so he has Bargs/Turk/Jose to "spread to floor" for him....

He is absolutely going to stay...money money and more $ and EGO he wants to be the big dog.
Personally, If he took his bags and left and we got back a decent pkg including picks , I wouldnt be sad to see him go. I wouldnt boo him when he came back though..cause I think he honestly did try..but his game is far to hard to translate into good teamwork
Can't remember the article but last night, shots for the Jazz were equally distributed...something that hardly evre happens with the Raps..

Boshs fault?...probably more like the 3 Js fault

In my opinion, the only way he stays is if Colangelo does something to change the culture of this team. In order to do that, he needs to trade Bargnani, Calderon and Hedo if he can. At least get rid of Bargnani and Calderon. If Colangelo shows Bosh that he's willing to admit he's made a mistake in building the team around Bosh and he's willing to correct that mistake, the Raptors will have a chance at signing Bosh.

did you read. The best 3 point shooter is Rose. Teams will pack the paint, killing any penetration Rose does and forcing CB to take jumpers. They did it last night. The packed it in and made Jose beat them from the outside and he couldnt. Thats why they got off to the start they did.

Sure that core is nice except Deng has been hurt every year, for huge periods of time too. As i said one injury and they would screwed.

After getting Bosh, Chicago still has a lot of capspace. They could easily get a perimeter oriented player like mike miller and sign some other 3-pt specialists. problem solved.

at the end of the day a team with 2 all stars and one of the best rebounders in the game is not going to "struggle".

I really don't know.

We don't deserve to keep him because we haven't given him the players he needs for this team to be successful.

That being said, I don't think he wants to leave. If this team had continued to play like it did before the All-Star break and we got out of the first round (which this team has the talent to do) I think there would be no doubt he would be back. If we would have shown anything to convince him to stay he would do it, but we haven't.

Then again, maybe its better for both parties if he leaves. Time to start over? Maybe

I agree with most of your points, but I believe Bosh would be the best fit for Chicago in this FA (I'm sure they can make some moves for 3 point shooters afterwards) and Chicago is the best fit for Bosh.

Totally disagree with this though. Riley gambled by dishing out his young core in 2005 (Odom, Butler) to land Shaq. Injury intervened, so for 2006 we made more changes, and it resulted in a ring.

Sure, the last 3 seasons have been wasted, but he's doing everything to put a contender together again this year.

Remember, he's the only person from his draft class to have won a ring so far.
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

Even if he stays, what kind of upgrades can the team make? Jose/AB/Turk all have huge deals that will be hard to move. Seriously, unless we're looking at larger deals w/ more risk like Arenas I don't see much that can be done.

Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade agent is from Chicago. Wade is from Chicago. All it takes for Chicago is to clear a few guys such as Deng, Noah, Gibson, Johnson, or Hinrich.

With that said, I think the definite answer to this comes down to these final remaining games of the season.

I agree but in doing so, he essentially concedes his 'vision' was faulty and cedes power to Bosh. Would he do that? Not sure.

My take is that BC has concocted a disaster and it would take nothing less than BC saying to CB4: "you make the personnel calls now, I'll be your broker in that regard" to keep Bosh from leaving.

But on another level I think CB4 needs to go to realize his potential and have a chance at winning. And if there is any hope to genuinely rebuild, it starts with moving the greatest asset we have to begin that. Additionally, I want to BC own this mess. No smooth talking can extract him from this quagmire.

I loathe the idea of losing Bosh- but apparently the leaders of this franchise need to hit rock bottom before realizing the disaster of their tenure(s).

Damned if he stays.
Damned if he leaves.

If he stays you can expect this team to do nothing important playoff-wise until Calderon and Turks get traded or their contracts expire.

If he leaves, and we don't find someone to fill the hole, we'd probably be a bottom feeding team with a better chance at drafting youth - provided Colagenlo doesn't throw away the draft picks during the rebuilding process.

If he leaves, and DO find someone to fill the hole, we'd be right back where we started. Right here.

Treadmill team for the win.

I'm not sure if he'll stay after the contract is signed, but I'm still positive he'll sign with us (S&T at the least). But I am confident this team with a re-signed Bosh cannot succeed as constructed. Which means, IF CB stays with us we need to move 1-2 core pieces and build properly (and fairly quickly) around Chris. In other words, there's a hell of a lot of IF's in this scenerio.

Return to Toronto Raptors
