This Piston team is a perfect example of how a rebuild can spiral out of control. Drafting the right players takes a lot of luck, even when you draft high. One or two missed picks and you can find yourself at the bottom of the league for a decade or longer.
A total teardown is not the no-brainer some posters think it is. It's a gamble that can backfire in a hurry.

Dwayne "smells like" Bacon, A.K.A. The Policeman.
Dude needs to wear #50, that way when he's on the fast break, everybody can yell "Here comes five-oh!"

Yeah, Houston did it too... and they have needed to sign some veterans to compete to playoffs.

Not even talking about the fact that nobody can win just on talent. Team need a winning culture and perennial trips to he bottom infuse your youngsters with culture of no-defense, lukewarm efforts, etc.

OKC is the opposite of Detroit. They rebuilt by drafting smart, letting their draft picks and young guys get playing time to develop, and now they are second in the West.
It's all about the organization. A good organization will be good regardless talent/age of players, a bad oraginization will be bad regardless of talent/age of players.
That's the difference you see in OKC versus Detroit.
