I watched him play against Fran Vasquez last year and Tomic was clearly the superior player. He is very fluid, has nice post moves and can hit that 18 foot jumper when needed, he's just skinny....

Why do you think he is getting so few minutes in the T16 right now?

As for summer league, I hope he plays and I hope there is a summer league. I'd love to go see him in person.

I don't know if the system just doesn't suit him, if he is injured, or just not playing up to the same level he was before. It is disconcerting to say the least, but his stats are in line with other European prospects of past years. If he is as talented as I think he is, then he will be able to transfer his game to the next level and possibly be even more successful.

It shouldn't be news to anyone that it's a completely different game in Europe and his stats will not translate, especially as a big man, regardless of minutes played.

I've not seen him since the Worlds but he showed enough to encourage me just by moving in to camera-shot. He looked skilled, long and reasonably nimble. Summer leagues will be the first hint of his NBA-usefulness, albeit minor.

Yeah, the international game produces much different box scores. However, we can still learn from the numbers. The fact that he isn't getting minutes over other players is a bad sign, and his production stats show he isn't the best player on his team. Just because you can't compare them well to NBA numbers doesn't mean they are meaningless, right?

Another win. Efes Pilsen - February 17

Tomic played 22:30. 14 points (6/10, 2/2 ft); 6 boards; and 1 steal. He had 3 tos and 4 fouls.

That's an upgrade from what we've been seeing in the numbers.

Top 16 is over (first round stuff---round robin).
Real Madrid made it through their Playoffs (second round stuff--7 game series).
Now they are in the Final Four.

Tomic in the Top 16: 10.2 ppg (51%), 4.3 rebs (1.8 off) in 19:54.
Tomic in the Playoffs: 11.6 ppg (51%), 5 rebs (1.8 off) in 22:26.

I am interested to see how Ante does in the final four against better competition.

Tomic plays in the final four game tomorrow (single elimination), in case anyone wants to watch.

May 6th at 21:00 CET. That puts the game in the afternoon for the western US.

Hes not coming over this year right?i heard something like he would have to be brought out to come over this year. Has anyone heard if he is still committed to the Jazz?

I vaguely remember reading an interview that mentions him coming over to play in the NBA, and how he will play for Utah since they drafted him. But the interview could have been in the context of "if I come to the NBA I'll play for Utah" and not "when."

Tomic is playing right now in the Euroleague final four. You can go to euroleague.net to see a box score, you can watch the game live but it looks like you have to pay for it.

Hey, Tomic has 4 points on 2 for 2 shooting early in the game!

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but JonathanG from DX tweeted that it's unlikely that Tomic ever comes over, at least according to his camp.

There was also this tweet from him:

Talented. Super tall/skinny. Very skilled. No D or rebounds. No emotion. Soft? RT @diggitbrother: Can you describe Tomic in 120 characters?

Super skinny with no defense or rebounding. Sounds like just what we need!

That's too bad. There seemed to be a lot of hope riding on him panning out on this forum, so I created this thread to track him. He hasn't been at all impressive in Europe, though. It's not like we're the T-wolves trying to get Rubio to come over.

But he did have a good game in Real's loss last game. 17 points, 6 boards (2 offensive), a block and a steal. 1 TO, and he got to the foul line a lot.

I think that's Tomic (#4) getting backed down by the Greek Shaq in this video (starting at 0:23):
http://www.realmadrid.com/cs/Satellite/en/1193040487695/1330056517530/noticia/Cronica/Maccabi_82-63_Real_Madrid.htm

However, this line of tweets has some interesting comments about him:
32-29 Maccabi at halftime. Enjoyable battle between Sofo and Tomic. This one is probably going down to the wire.

Tomic frustrating Sofo with physical play. That's not your typical Tomic.

Jazz draftee Ante Tomic is the most effective player for Real right now. Nothing out of this planet, though. Reyes playing with guts.

Bump

Since the draft, there has been a lot of Ante Tomic talk. This thread has a lot of info how he's been doing recently.

Ante Tomic was voted in the All First Team of the ACB League Regular season!

I don't get the tomic love. Not trying to be a downer but the kid was a second rounder for a reason. He doesn't have an NBA frame, he's soft, and if he hasn't come over by now, I don't expect him to ever come over.

There are people on this board that are trying to say tomic should influence who we draft at 3, that's insane.

Tomic played 9 minutes and had 8 points (4-4), 2 blocks. 0 boards.

 So was this guy a waste of a pick? Any news on whether he's coming over anytime soon?

I don't think he'll ever come over. Too bad, I was stoked on him.
