Re: Nate Wolters just scored 53 points
i guess you haven't seen him play then.
but for the sake of the argument, let's say you're right. wouldn't it be nice to have a jimmer at utah who isn't the actual jimmer?
he's a late 1st round pick at best, likely to go in the 2nd round. he'd be a good value pick at minimum.
and no, he's not jimmer. he is an actual point guard (and a rather big one at that at 6'4) and playmaker. he actually can run a team.

wolters offensive game is more well rounded than jimmers. jimmer is just a demographically friendly colored (LOL) player that made a lot of big shots on ESPN like Adam Morrison. The problems are on the defensive side. Can he overcome them IDK.... but he'd be a hell of a player in Europe... they'd love him.

I'll be honest, I haven't, but my instincts are to be skeptical of any impressive statistical output in a college basketball game.
Edit: OMG he's a white kid from the midwest! There goes the suspense of draft night.

It's not totally fair because Woodside is a smaller guy but he put up big numbers for NDSU and got the same kinda hype to just go not drafted.

Re: Nate Wolters just scored 53 points
I've had my eye on Wolters for a while now.
I think if he doesn't go late first round, the teams that passed on him might regret it.
I'd be interested to see how he got most of his points - he's a great shot but at times he struggles beating super athletic guards and getting to the rim, which would only become more challenging in the NBA.

that's ok, but he's averaging 20 pts, 6 rbs and 6 ast for the season, so it's not all that surprising because he can score.

i've been lobbying for him all season, i really like him.
it is true that he is not the most athletic and will have problem getting to the rim, but he already adjusted around that and knows how to finish on the move and through contact, and is quite proficient in making floaters. he already addressed one of his deficiencies and managed to work around it. when he went to the NCAA tournament and played against NBA competition in tony wroten and terrence ross from washington, he dropped 34 points on them (with 7 assists and zero turnovers) and his team won.
also, it seems like the jazz don't really want players who can penetrate and get to the rim. the only one who does it is hayward. we got burks who isn't allowed to go inside and the jazz have him play east to west. the jazz try to run their offense regardless of the personnel and we rely more on ball movement and cutting than on penetration anyway. i think wolters is a good if to run our offense. he is a good shooter, great passer and our style of play really matches his strengths and vise versa. he should prove he can play defense though.

the fact that jimmers name still comes up in basketball conversations makes me feel ill. not just being a u of u homer either, jimmer is just nauseating.

I want a "Not-Jimmer Jimmer". I think Burke is the PG we want, he is the one I would like. Then again any PG in the 1st round looks good now, its just finding the one who ends up being a success in the NBA, which is the difference between 8th and 9th pick or 15th and 16th.

Re: Nate Wolters just scored 53 points
i just finished watching SDSU@Oakland. Wolters went for 36-6-7. he's a first round pick.
he didn't get beat off the dribble ONCE. the total points scored on him was 8, and not all of them were his fault. he managed to stay in front of his man the entire game.
he doesn't panic, plays under complete control at all times. hardly forced any shots. actually, almost all of his misses were shots he forced. he can shoot 3s and have a mid range game as well. he sets up his teammates time after time, works great off picks and will thrive in the jazz offense. he orchestrated the offense, moved players around, got his points in the flow of the game. great handle, only 2 turnovers and only one was directly his fault. he draws contact and can get to the basket. he really fits the jazz perfectly, i can only hope we draft him - he is worth a 1st round pick. he'll make teams who will skip him pay. he's worth our lower 1st round pick. DO IT KOC!

I'd like to see him in action, got any highlights? If judging NBA talent was based on college stats alone Doug Mcdermott would probably be the #1 overall pick.

There are some Wolters highlights on YouTube. Honestly, watching the guy just makes me like him more, too. He's got great size for a PG and is amazingly crafty in half-court sets. Changes directions with skill, scores on anyone and is among the best college playmakers.

At Draft Express he is rated as a late second round pick. He has defensive issues especially with quick PGs.

i don't have any highlights outside of what you can find on youtube. but i was able to watch his games live here and there and i'm really impressed. my impression from him is not based on stats, but on watching him play. his stats just reaffirm and back up those impressions.
anyway, i'll save you the search, here are some highlights (what he's doing at the 2:30 mark is just sick):

that's true, but that's also true about just about any player really. overall, i think the draft express reports are very complementary of him overall, especially when DX themselves admit they'd like their readers to be able to read between the lines. i'd just like to point out that last night vs oakland he wasn't beat once and had no problem guarding his man. anyway, judge for yourself:

He's high-risk high-reward. I don't suggest we take him with our top pick but he could be a steal later on.

Re: Nate Wolters just scored 53 points
No matter how many articles you find he is still a second round pick with limited lateral quickness and questionable ability to play in the NBA.
