Stockton takes over Game 6 of the WCF

Post#1 » by BarneyGumble » Fri Aug 29, 2014 9:19 pm

I am reposting this to our forum...we dont have much to talk about lately anyway :)

I got nostalgic reading the "greatest duos" thread and found this clip. The Jazz were down 12 with just over 2 minutes to go on the road of this pivotal game. Rather than head back home for game 7...Stockton decided it was time to punch his team's ticket to its first Finals in this game. He takes over the game. Usually an assist man, he scores 11 of the teams final 13 points, including the 3 that counted most.

I just posted this video a few hours ago in the player comparision forum.

I'm arguing about him in the spot 24.

I imagine the feeling for those who actually watched this game live at that day.

Simply amazing.

Ostertag gets a bad rap...but the truth is he was a huge reason we had playoff success in 1997 and 1998. He held his own defensively against Shaq and Dream for 4 straight series and also performed well offensively. I will venture to say he is the SOLE reason we did not go out in round 1 as #1 seed in 1998 because he brought us back from elimination when we were down 2-1.

His bad rap comes from the big contract he was rewarded with and the fact that he did not keep himself in optimum shape. He was good for what he was supposed to be, and if Sloan didnt take a sledge hammer to his value, maybe we could have traded him for something instead of berating him to the media.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.
