Game 44: Utah Jazz (22-21) @ Houston Rockets (19-21)

Post#1 » by Inigo Montoya » Sat Jan 20, 2024 11:24 am

Tari Eason and Victor Oladipo are listed as OUT. Reggie Bullock Jr. is GTD.

No injuries on the Jazz.

Should be a fun game with a lot of players on the Rockets I find interesting, such as Sengun, Jalen Green (I would not be surprised if we see him traded), Amen Thompson, and Cam Whitmore, the latter two have started to get some minutes lately.

Houston is pretty good at home, terrible away. I expect a good fight and I hope for a win.

Need Lauri to show out against sengun. They are competing for the all star spot

Yes but I have a hard time seeing Sengun > Lauri.

I like the quote- it makes me chuckle. And it was/is pretty much true.

Yes but senguns team has more media attention because they started out a lot better than the jazz

That decision has turned so far utter bull.
Put Kessler in let him guard Sengun.

Why is Laurie not getting the ball down the stretch and on the occasion he does he passes straight away. I love Laurie but this game shows Senguin should get the All-Star nod

Yeah truly odd.
Clarkson and Sexton were back on their worst versions
and doing everything themself's and had heroball mode whole goddamn night.

But Lauri also needs to look at the mirror too because he's an allstar and Jazz number1 star
so he cannot be a passive and hanging outside of the game if he wants to score.

Yeah Lauri do not have no business into allstar game this season without big injuries.
Clarkson is absolutely infuriating guy to watch because he has gold-fishes basketball IQ too often
example in that last ball handling where Lauri was wide open but Clarkson didn't want to pass the ball for Lauri some reason.

This was on the guards. Yes Lauri was passing it but he was trying to get the ball moving. If the ball is moving it will make it back to him. But the ball never moved back.

It was disgusting the way Clarkson and sexton just took turns and iced Lauri. Yes Lauri is covered but he has some openings. Throw the damn ball!!!

It feels like sexton and Clarkson only pass to Lauri when he's wide open and if he isn't then they immediately go hero ball. They need to learn to make the passes in traffic. They were hitting tough shots but they didn't play winning basketball at the end.

Very reminiscent of the my turn your turn of Coby/Lavine while Lauri was on the Bulls.

Yes the lose was on the guards especially Sexton and Clarkson.
But Lauri needs to realize that he's not now a bench player in Bulls he's an allstar and supposed to lead Jazz team every night.

He cannot disappear like that and get schooled for Sengun who's 6 yrs younger than Lauri and basically still a rookie
meanwhile Lauri is 7 year veteran allstar and retaining MIP award winner he needs to be better in games like this that's a fact.

If Lauri wants to be all NBA candidate and MVP award contender one day he must improve every season
and play his best level he's not a rookie anymore so no excuses.

Bad shooting nights happen but hanging outside of the game
and being passive basically whole 4th quarter is not a good thing for an allstar player.

You live by the flame, you die by the flame.
Just like OKC game, Jazz were really poor in the first half and still made it a tight contest.
This time they walked into a dark alley and got mugged for their wallet, then went back with sheriff Walker and deputy Dunn to face the bad guys in a standoff. This was the most impactful performance from Kris Dunn I have ever seen, and his +17 tells the truth in a way other box score stats don't. So that's the good.
The bad: Lauri is still not ready for streetfights and Collins does not help. The ugly truth: Olynyk no longer can defend at all, so best to trade him if some playoff team hasn't noticed yet.
So Jazz don't have the inside D needed for playoff basketball, even at the play-in level where Rockets are as a team. Fortunately Sengun is a pretty rare case in the league, an old school below-the-rim low post powerhouse with exceptional base strength and footwork. He also makes excellent reads and quick decisions for his age; fully deserves to make the ASG.

We'd be in a much better position to win games if we stop playing down 15+ in the first quarter every other game. Both this game and the OKC game would have been Ws if it wasn't for the poor start.

Markkanen was marginalized in the 4th quarter and wasn't involved enough, which is a shame. I thought Sexton and Clarkson played well but we'd be in a better position if Markkanen was more involved imho.

Respect to Agbaji, it seems like every game he comes up with huge blocks.

After Holiday bullied George, he did not return to the floor.

Dunn played much more in the 2nd half. Looks like Hardy want to win, and I'm glad with it.
