Hey all!
I was at Orlando Summer League again. Here are some notes from the week!
1. The PG13 trade caught the entire NBA world by surprise. No one saw it coming. It was the buzz of the first day of SL. Obviously, everyone in OKC is excited to have him.
2. Follow up comment on PG13 was "At the very worst we cleared some not so great salary off the books. Can't beat that!"
3. Dakari Johnson had another strong SL, but the overall impression is that he's unlikely to ever crack and NBA roster.
4. Vince Hunter was terrific. He will go to training camp with someone, as scouts from several teams liked what he did this week.
5. They said they intended to upgrade at backup PG, ideally with someone who could play with Russ some. They did that with signing Raymond Felton.
6. Terrance Ferguson has a long way to go. Good athlete and shoots it ok, but he has a lot of work to do. He'll spend most, if not all, of his game action in the NBAGL.

Hey Smitty. Anyway you can post these in the Summer League discussion instead of starting another thread? Thanks! Just want to keep all things SL to cultivate a deeper discussion.

Can you elaborate, why?

Re: OKC Thunder Orlando Summer League Notes
On Dakari: it is a combination of things. He's not quick enough to guard at the NBA level, especially with space becoming more important. And his offensive game is still fairly limited.

Thanks for doing this, I go to all the boards to read them and it's great getting real insight.
Was there any talk on the expectations of Russ signing/not signing his extension?
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

Nothing beyond "We're hopeful he'll sign with us and finish his career in Oklahoma City."
So basically a whole lot of nothing.

I don't agree with the Dakari assessment.
Ferguson didn't play, right? So he is still the guy who was super bad in Australia to me.
