2013 US Open

Post#1 » by UGA Hayes » Tue Aug 27, 2013 3:03 am

Damn did this tourney sneak up you guys too had no idea it was this week.

Will just leave my obligatory U.S men's tennis just falls further and further into the dumps. Unless Jack Sock or isner figure it out could be a pretty short tourney for American men at the open.

Women's side looks more promising, Sloane Stephens seems like she is on the cusp although she came a hair from losing today. A couple of young women players I have never heard of will be playing tomorrow in Victoria Duval and Sachia Vickery. Then of course Serena has as good a chance as ever.

Venus Williams-Zheng was fun to watch, but it's sad to see how much Venus has fallen.

It was incredibly depressing. He got outplayed by Karlovic from the back of the court. Ivo f'ing Karlovic. That's how you know it's time to hang it up.

Well, Sam's out now. I don't know what's brewing with the US juniors, but the men's pro game is brittle at the moment.

The French guy who defeated him faces Fed next.

It's great to see some tennis again! (I dream of getting to see this tournament live one day...)

Hopefully Victoria Duval can back her win against stosur tonight. She is extremely marketable and superlikable, so it would be really good for womans tennis if she could make some noise

^ Too bad it didn't work out for her, but she's got a promising career.

This Isner/Monfils match was a weird one. I didn't know the US Open was played in France. Usually the home town guy gets the cheers... until finally at Match point the crowd broke out the USA USA chants.

It's hard to play against a crowd pleaser like Monfils, though... Isner is very gracious and well spoken in victory.

P.S. GO MILOS!

I sometimes forget how awesome the US Open is. The Serena Williams-Yaroslava Shvedova match started near midnight. Live tennis under the lights at this hour...gotta love it.

I am American and I am glad serve bot loss. I hate Isner. Rooting for Rafa to win it all.

U.S men's tennis is officially dead. Actually it has been dead for a while. I am fearful of the future where Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray retire.

U.S women's tennis will remain strong as long as we got Serena. I haven't been impressed by any young prospects so far for either U.S men's or women's tennis. Hopefully a top 5 talent arises.

To me he is the third best player in the NBA - Luka and Embiid are comfortably ahead of him.

Wozniacki just upset by Camila Giorgi. Giorgi strikes the ball very well and even then, there's times where she's just not aggressive enough.

I'm actually having fun with this rain delay. Nice re-living some of these great tiebreaks, especially Djokovic-Dolgopolov in 2011 and Sampras-Corretja in 1996 where Sampras threw up from dehydration.

Seeing Dementieva play and Bartoli winning Wimbledon makes me think she retired too early.

So if everything falls in place, we'll get a Fed/Nadal match in the quarters.

I irrationally blame you for that not happening.

But man, straight sets? To a guy he was undefeated against?
