AO 2024 is in progress.

So is Carlito's rise:

Unfortunately Rafa has to sit this AO out, and Andy has already been eliminated from this year's tournament. As has Stanimal. With how Carlito and Sinner among others are playing, can anyone challenge Djokovic for a true changing of the guard?

Some women are also returning to play, among them Raducanu (defeated), new mom Osaka following Wozniacki (came back US Open) in returning to the game after having a child. Interesting stat:

And the women's game has a new record:

Hardly get to watch the AO (I'm in EST), but if I was watching it, I probably would've thought it was a death sentence for Sinner losing that third set tiebreak and letting him back in.

EDIT: Pretty much what happened to Zverev with Medvedev.

SINNER WINNER!

Dug deep, came back from two sets down, served it out, fittingly won on a forehand down the line winner.

New guard breaking through. Another wave of players ushering in this new tennis era.

I'm also EST and the AO is the toughest to keep up with but this match was definitely worth waking up early for. One for the ages. Thank goodness it's still Sunday!

Congratulations, Jannik!
