Olympics Tennis thread

Federer vs Tursonov going on now.

Nadal won his first game against Starace and Serena had a relatively easy outing too.

Hewitt is also playing now. Looks like a good pool of talent has turned up for the games.

Has Jankovic retired?
if so, Williams sisters have easier challenges

yes, she said she has a thumb injury...

i just saw the recap of the federer game, very easy, he looked focused and loose, not as pressured as he looked in the last 3-4 tournaments.

i'm praying for a nadal-federer final.

I think thats going to happen but still I'd give Djokovic a chance. He looked out of sorts since winning the Aus open but on a bouncy hard court, he's an entirely different animal.

With Djokovic... you never know what is it going to happen, he beats Nadal in semis, but loses to Murray in the Finals...

yeah, he's still a very emotional guy and that sometimes interferes in his game.

but with federer and nadal hungry for the gold i don't think others have a chance.

According to ESPN, she's risking a knee injury to win the gold.

Losing to a guy that you've been 8-0 against previously signals that something is no right with Fedex. Anyways good semis match ups with Nadal vs Djokovic and Gonzalez vs Blake.

Serena losing to Dementieva is not much of an upset since Elena's been producing some consistently good results of late but Venus losing to Li Na, thats a disappointing end after the high of Wimbeldon.

Nadal beats the Djoker. Will face Gonzo in the final. Though I am a big Nadal fan, I believe he was outplayed during the second (and most of the 3rd) sets. Nevertheless, I am thrilled he got the W, and hope he gets the gold. Now, as for the other match - Blake had PLENTY of chances and just couldn't put it away. However Gonzalez put on a really poor display of sportsmanship with his blatant lie about the call. Looking forward to the final, but I wish Nadal and Djoker were on opposite sides of the draw - the final would have been great.

If Nadal wins the Olympics that's a really big deal for him as a player. Of course you could say the same for anyone in some ways, but I've been waiting to see him win a major hard court tournament.

Interestingly, if Gonzalez wins that's great for him, but it won't really mean a whole lot to me because it seems like we already know what he is: Talented, but erratic.

well, it will still be a good final, but nadal will still win the gold.

and federer still has a chance at getting a gold medal playing doubles vs. sweden.

I bet the doubles medal won't sound as good as the singles would have though. Gonzalez is a talented shot maker and I've been waiting for like 3 seasons for him to become a little more consistent. Hope he gets to put together atleast one good grandslam.
