Grizzlies To Receive Cap Exception

Amid a rough start to the season, the Memphis Grizzlies still have some room to continue building their roster.

The organization received a $6.3 million cap exception due to a knee injury suffered by center Steven Adams prior to the start of the season, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.

The exception allows a team that's over the cap to have some spending power when it loses a player to an injury that keeps them out for the remainder of the season. It is usually worth either half the injured player's salary or the mid-level exception—Adams is owed $12.6 million this year.

Does this allow us to keep Biz for the remainder of the season (IIRC he's on a $5 million contract with only $1 million guaranteed) without having to waive someone (presumably Lofton or Laravia)?

I believe it doesn’t give us a roster spot. But I hope at the time we need to make a decision on BB, we will manage to clear one.

Correct we don't get a roster spot unfortunately which means this exception likely won't be used. Maybe they can get a 2 for 1 trade done but we will see.

Tilman and Kennard are now on the injured list also. Knees apparently.

Makes you wonder what coaching structure Memphis has in place that players keep getting injured under ?

I get that playing hard is needed but playing smart in training and not going for broke in scrimmages might help.

Just speculating...
