Same Standing Pairs Draft - SF1 - Dr Positivity vs MadNess*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Sat Feb 10, 2024 6:56 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Please ensure you give a rationale for your vote; votes with no explanation will not be counted.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 3 votes advances.**

GL MadNESS, big fan of your team!

Defensive matchups: Rose on Curry, Green on Wade, Tatum on Marion, Davis on Love, Gasol on Gobert. The Curry matchup isn't too nice, but I don't think Wade chasing Rose around is perfect either.

- He has a strong top 2 however we have 3rd guy with Rose, Tatum and Davis to make up for it, and more of a balance with an elite two way wing and big man instead of two guards.

- His defensive frontcourt will have issues either stretching Gobert out to the 3pt line guarding Gasol or Gobert having to guard Davis and leading the paint relatively unprotected. Overall I think we are a little bit better on defense with the Davis/Gasol frontcourt instead of playing Love.

- The bench looks like a draw to me with both teams carrying a pretty poor 8th man to get a Warrior like Bogut/GP. I like Thabo as much as O'Neale. Johnson is a vet who can can hit some open 3s for us.

Davis is the difference maker as the dominant big man in the series.

Team Wurry

PG: Steph Curry (40) | Gary Payton III (8) Dwayne Wade
SG: Dwyane Wade (40) | Gary Payton III (8) | Steph Curry
SF: Shawn Marion (16) | Royce O’Neale (32) | Dwyane Wade
PF: Kevin Love (28) | Shawn Marion (20) | Reggie Evans
Cc: Rudy Gobert (34) | Kevin Love (6) | Reggie Evans (8)

(14’-15’) Steph Curry - 16.8 FGA
(22’-23’) Royce O’Neale - 7.8 FGA
(09’-10’) Dwyane Wade - 19.6 FGA
(22’-23’) Rudy Gobert - 7.8 FGA
(06’-07’) Shawn Marion - 13.4 FGA
(15’-16’) Kevin Love - 12.7 FGA
(21’-22’) Gary Payton II - 4.8 FGA
(12’-13’) Reggie Evans - 3.3 FGA

Total: 86.2 | 88.0

Write Up:

Goodluck Dr. P!

Plan on blitzing Rose with Wade up front, and then a good dose of GP2, who was a great point of attack defender when the Warriors won the title.
This free's up Curry to go bananas on offense. He can shoot from wherever whenever he wants. Finally saw the dude first hand in Indy on Thursday. Hes automatic.
Marion and O'Neale are good defensive match ups for Tatum.
We plan to use Gobert on AD as much as possible, with Marion seeing some time there as well. Don't forget we have 6 hard fouls from Reggie Evans to use. Dude averaged 11 RPG that season.
Love is fine on Marc.
Curry has the best series, and Wade has the second best series. That is what tips it. I have good defenders for his best offensive matchups.

Curry and Love space the floor with O'Neale off the bench.
Dr. P's offense seems too clunky with basically 3 bigs starting and Derrick Rose. Don't like it.

Vote Ness.

I don’t think either team matches up super well with the other- you kind of want Gobert as a back line defensive guy rather than having to man up on a dynamic threat like young AD.

I don’t think it compares to the challenges Dr P will have containing what is quite easily the games’ best back court though. I don’t view 2019 Green was the wing defender he was in his prime, and I’d imagine with Curry’s off ball ability that Wade is also going to see a lot of time as a ball handler here as well. Speaking of Curry, he’s also well positioned to have a great series as well.

I think Ness has enough here, so I’m voting for him.

I like both teams quite a bit. Not feeling super strongly either way, but my gut is telling me to go with Dr P, as I love his roster construction. Ness's is quite good as well, but I think there might be a little adjustment period to get the offense to sync most effectively.

Much as I appreciate the balance of Dr P's starting 5, there are quite a few strategic elements working against him here. He doens't have a good individual counter for Steph, and I don't know how well this version of Green can stay in front of peak Wade either. The combination of Gobert (albeit in a down year), Marion, and Wade provides strong rim protection against a team that relies heavily on getting to the rim. I still see Johnson as a glaring issue - those minutes count just like the rest of them over the course of a series. It's possible Dr P could still overcome a lot of these issues in another matchup, but the Steph factor is just too damaging here.
