Much of what I tried to do with this team was to add youth. The Jazz as constructed previously only had a limited window to improve and it was clear that Deron Williams was not going to be returning as a Jazz man. My faith in Al Jefferson is/was also extremely high, so I decided that he would be one of the centerpieces of me team.
Through trading and free agency I was able to add several prospects that I like, as well as a couple of pick to help my team improve over the next few years. I also retained a lot of cap flexibility, enough to add a max player next offseason to push the Jazz back into contender status.
The final piece of the puzzle in not only staying competetive, but also being better down the road was to have a good balance of players. Al Jefferson may be the post low-post scorer in the game, and he is proving that he can be the centerpiece on a winning team. Steph Curry spaces the floor with his shooting ability, and Harden is a do-it-all shooting guard who spreads the floor and breaks down defenders. Finally there is Ariza and Millsap. Paul is a high-post power forward who feeds off the attention on Jefferson, and Ariza will thrive in a Utah system that allows him to go back to his bread-and-butter baseline cuts and get his field goal percentage back to what it was before New Orleans and Houston (around 50%).
