Rodney Stuckey| O.J Mayo | Jeff Green| Andrea Bargnani | Andrew Bynum

Steve Blake| Evan Turner| CJ Miles | Josh McRoberts | Kwame Brown

Goal: With Melo's departure imminent, we need to quickly establish a new core and gear for a deep playoff push within 2-3 years.

Step 1: Trade Carmelo Anthony for the best possible package

Result: Carmelo Anthhony for Monta Ellis, Epke Udoh, Dorell Wright and expirings

Grade: With the season that Monta is having we give ourselves a B- in this deal. We were unable to land the all-star we wanted, fortunately for us we picked up solid assets that could help us build in the long run. Only downfall is that we were unable to save a considerable amount of money in the deal.

Step 2: If unable to acquire a franchise player with Carmelo Anthony, use other pieces to find a suitable building block for the franchise.

Result: Nene in exchange for Andrew Bynum

Grade: A- We land a guy with loads of potential but like Nene, has a history of injury problems. The difference? Andrew Bynum is a 23 year old natural center, already locked into a deal. With the lack of capable big men in the league we knew Nene would command max dollars (signed for 16 million per -92 million total) and we weren't convinced he would stay.

Step 3: Find a capable 2nd and 3rd go to guy who can relieve the pressure off of your franchise player

Result: Acquiring O.J Mayo, Jeff Green and Evan Turner

Grade:A+ We acquired O.J Mayo, Turner and Bargnani for relatively cheap. While his numbers may be down, all signs point to Mayo having a fluke year. He's still capable of averaging 18-20 PPG on good %'s and still a really good defender. Turner is slowly turning the corner and should start showing more of his potential next season. Green has always proven to be a capable scorer and defender when given the chance.

Step 4: Find suitable role players

Result: Acquired Rodney Stuckey, Andrea Bargnani, CJ Miles, Josh Mcroberts and Kwame Brown

Grade: B+

Evan Turner|4,947,840 | 5,293,080
Rodney Stuckey 7,000,000| 7,000,000|
Andrew Bynum |14,900,000|16,100,000

Andrea Bargnani |8,600,00| 10,610,000 |
Drew Gooden |6,226,200| 6,687,400
Steve Blake $4,000,000 |$4,000,000 |$4,000,000
OJ Mayo $5,632,637 | $7,390,019
Kwame Brown $2,000,000|2,000,000
Josh Mcroberts $1,500,000|1,500,000
Luke Walton $5,680,000 | $5,800,000

DEPTH CHART
Curry 32/Harris 16
Harden 30/Hayward 18
Ariza 28/Weems 20
Millsap 30/Evans 14/Brackins 4
Jefferson 34/Mullens 10/Brackins 4

The future is bright (numbers from last 10 games):
Al Jefferson - 26 - 27p 11r 2a 1s 2b 57% FG. 15th, 2004.
Paul Millsap - 26 - 16p 7r 2a 1s 1b 52% FG. 47th, 2006.
Trevor Ariza - 26 - 10p 5r 2a 1s. 34th, 2004.
Sonny Weems - 25 - 9p 2r 1a 51% FG. 39th, 2008.
Jeremy Evans - 23 - 4p 3r 1a 63% FG. 55, 2010.
Stephan Curry - 23 - 20p 6r 6a 47% FG 46% 3-PT. 7th, 2009.
Craig Brackins 23 - 3p 1r .3a. 21st, 2010.
Byron Mullens - 23 - 1p 1r .4a. 24th, 2009.
James Harden - 22 - 17p 3r 3a 2s 50% FG. 3rd, 2009.
Manny Harris - 21 - 5p 3r 2a 38% FG, 47% 3-PT. Undrafted, 2010
Gordan Hayward - 21 - 5p 2r 1a 48% FG. 53% 3-PT. #9, 2010
Average Age: 23.54

Much of what I tried to do with this team was to add youth. The Jazz as constructed previously only had a limited window to improve and it was clear that Deron Williams was not going to be returning as a Jazz man. My faith in Al Jefferson is/was also extremely high, so I decided that he would be one of the centerpieces of me team.

Through trading and free agency I was able to add several prospects that I like, as well as a couple of pick to help my team improve over the next few years. I also retained a lot of cap flexibility, enough to add a max player next offseason to push the Jazz back into contender status.

The final piece of the puzzle in not only staying competetive, but also being better down the road was to have a good balance of players. Al Jefferson may be the post low-post scorer in the game, and he is proving that he can be the centerpiece on a winning team. Steph Curry spaces the floor with his shooting ability, and Harden is a do-it-all shooting guard who spreads the floor and breaks down defenders. Finally there is Ariza and Millsap. Paul is a high-post power forward who feeds off the attention on Jefferson, and Ariza will thrive in a Utah system that allows him to go back to his bread-and-butter baseline cuts and get his field goal percentage back to what it was before New Orleans and Houston (around 50%).

TRADES
