The Jamal Murray discussion got me thinking - why not have a 2024 draft with no FGA limit, but you can only choose five guys who were primarily starters? If we still think that's too loaded, we could limit it to one conference. It would open the door to some players like Murray, Zion, etc.

Might want to limit teams if it's one conference.

West alphas

Nikola Jokic
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Kawhi Leonard
Luka Doncic
Kevin Durant
LeBron James
Paul George (?)
Anthony Davis
Victor Wembanyama (?)
Stephen Curry

Was just thinking of that as well! My idea was a draft with a very shallow talent pool to compensate for the unrestricted FGAs. For instance, players who never played college ball in the US or international pairs draft (pairs from same country, only 1 USA pair allowed per team) or something along these lines. I like your idea a lot as well!

I like the do FGA limit draft would be fun.
It would also be a fun one to do in an nba season that doesnt include any of the currently overused selections. Like 1975 or something. lol

Also perhaps since we have playoffs going for no recent champs, might as well do an only recent champs one, Just the teams we didnt use on the last one, slightly longer period of time, maybe 1990-2024.

''No college ball in the US'' draft. No FGA limit since it's a very shallow talent pool. Here are some notable players who never played college basketball, in random order:

  • LeBron
  • Kobe
  • KG
  • Jokic
  • Giannis
  • Dirk
  • Luka
  • Moses
  • T-Mac
  • Dwight
  • Manu
  • Wemby
plus the majority of international players

8 participants would probably be ideal. Maybe 10 tops? Wonder whether players like Kobe and T-Mac will see their draft stock rise as a result of the unrestricted FGAs. Likewise, will players like Manu or Gobert (=FGA bargains) see their draft stock fall?

Any objections / feedback regarding this idea? I could create the singups thread as soon as the current playoffs end. Don't think we should start a new draft with 2 other games in progress.

Why do I feel like we did this fairly recently?

Edit: It was last January but we included an exception.

Same. No matter how small the pool, it tends to lead to some pretty stilted teams.

It’s not even just that.

Without that added element of challenge there just isn’t enough to do in these games.

Should we wait with opening a new draft until at least one playoffs end?

I agree, although funnily enough that's exactly what we just did and we're still in this position now.

The No Recent Finals one should be over now.
