If we did a redraft of individual players taken in this draft with no obligation to pick “cores”, I believe 2004 KG would be pick number one.

I considered Barkley/KJ/Majerle but I already have a guy who takes Majerle’s role and I believe both KG and 2004 Cassell are better than Barkley and 1993 KJ.

I love the concept of pairing KG with a player like Reggie- a guy who can fill the go-to scorer role without the ball in his hands a lot.

The KG core was definitely one to be left for last so you could get other pieces in place. Great PF-PG combo but the wings are horrendous.

Yeah I definitely needed to get my ducks in a row.

I didn't firmly decide to go that route until my fourth round pick though. Up until then I had numerous other options. One of them was snapped up but there were at least 3 unselected cores I considered.

Other considered cores (excluding ones that were gone before my first pick.)

1995 or 96 Sonics (taken)
1993 Suns- Barkley, Dan, KJ
2011 Bulls- Rose, Deng, Noah
2009 or 2010 Magic- Dwight, Shard, Maybe VC- would have taken Dallas PG as my non All Star for a true ensemble cast.

At the end of the day I thought I had a good enough crop of wild cards to snag KG and having the best player in the game with a well fitting roster usually gives you a fighting chance.

Would have been interested in the Jazz or Thunder but also knew I wouldn’t get them when I passed on them in round 1.

Kinda surprised nobody selected the 2021 Mavs: Luka, Zinger, Brunson, DFS, 3.3-FGA Dwight Powell, Kleber. Personally, I don't like the Luka-Brunson fit, but the talent is undeniable. I think it's the best core left on the board. The 2021 Sixers would have been a good shout as well: Embiid, peak Tobias, Danny Green, Thybulle.

I thought KJ-Barkley will be picked. Also Harden Ariza Tucker is a pretty nice trio, I guess Harden would've been taken if Paul was available.
