Put Them Over the Top Draft Play-In: Fadeaway_J* vs. lilyroddyb

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

Total: 87.6/88.0

Really leaning into the SSOL theme here, adding another athlete and shooter in Jones who can also provide secondary creation to supplement Nash. In the halfcourt we'll spam spread pick-and-roll with Nash and Amar'e. On the break, we have an uber-athletic frontcourt to run with Nash, with Bell and Jones also able to trail for threes. Kukoc runs the second unit Diaw-style with support from Smart. Kleber offers another wrinkle with his ability to pop out beyond the arc. Defensively, we have a range of switchable wings and guards with Kleber also providing some versatility at the big spots. Marion, Jones, Smart, and Kleber are excellent team defenders who can help cover for the weaknesses of Nash and Amar'e.

Matchup
- We'll stash Nash on Green or McMillan whenever they're on the court. Inital assignments will be Bell-Payton, Jones-Murray, Nash-Green, Marion-Draymond, Amar'e-Kemp. Smart will also spend a good chunk of the game on Murray.
- Between Jones, Bell, Smart, and Marion, we have enough on the perimeter to handle whatever roddy throws at us. Marion's mobility also makes Draymond less of a threat as the screener, where he's used to exploiting bigs out in space.
- Our fit is a lot more natural with Jones slotting perfectly into the SSOL core, and established synergy between the Nash-Marion-Amar'e triumvirate. Murray is roddy's best offensive creator and theoretically works nicely with Draymond, but that leaves Payton off ball where he's not much of a threat. On the other hand, Payton and Draymond aren't very complementary at all. It feels like the core of two completely different teams awkwardly fused together.
- This is a nightmare series for Sabas, who won't be able to keep up with Amar'e in transition and will be ruthlessly exploited in pick-and-roll in the halfcourt.

Good luck roddy.

Hmm.

Truthfully, I'm just not sure about the fit with Draymond and Jamal with the Seattle core. I'd have wanted to see more off-ball specialists there. Murray's shooting helps but the emphasis on playmaking in the added wild card players isn't quite optimal given I never thought of that as a weakness of the Sonics core- Payton was a very solid pick and roll playmaker who formed a good 2 man game with Kemp (which by some metrics was more successful than Stockton/Malone at times due to more competent team building around them) and Detlef was a great secondary playmaker.

I agree with Fade that I don't see a great deal of overall synergy.

Fade on the other hand took a better starting team and added Eddie Jones, who slides in perfectly, and Kukoc, who I also see having a well defined role here. I think it clicks well and that Danny Green is a decent enough place to stash Steve Nash for these purposes.

The whole premise of Gary Payton is to have him be your PG and then you don't have any defensive weaknesses. Adding a point guard in Jamal Murray next to him negates his advantage as a GOAT level defensive point guard. Draymond isn't a great fit next to Gary Payton--they take up similar parts of the court and do similar things offensively.

I agree Payton, Murray and Draymond together is a little off fit wise, roddy might have a slight talent advantage but not enough to make up for that. Vote Fade.

Great matchup of two teams who would both want to make this a track meet. Tough for me to decide.

I agree that roddy's pieces don't perhaps fit ideally. Murray is a great non-all-star pick in a vacuum, but he does compromise an otherwise elite D and somehow I feel like they might even make more sense with, say, OG Anunoby in his place. He's a legit shot-maker though.

On the other hand, you really couldn't build in a lab a better duo than GP/Draymond for trying to contain the Nash/Amare pnr, and if you can slow that you are in pretty good shape against the Suns. I also could see Kemp thriving in this matchup, since he could beat up on teams that didn't have great shot-blocking.

I don't know, I guess I feel like despite some awkwardness lilroddyb has some interesting answers here. So I'm voting roddy. Tough, as I said.

[Edit: Oops, I spent so much time agonizing that the matchup was over by the time I posted...]
