Shaq Franchises Draft - R2 - flaco vs Fadeaway_J*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Mon Mar 25, 2024 11:27 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 3 votes wins the championship**

We can hurt you in a number of ways on the offensive end, starting with Chuck either backing down or facing up. He's unstoppable around the rim, and an excellent passer who can punish the defense when it collapses on him. Chuck's gravity allows Tatum to function in his ideal role as a #2 option. Price knits everything together at the point, a dynamic off-the-dribble creator and finisher whose lethal shooting helps space the floor for the big guns. Parish will feed off the other stars for dumpoffs, transition layups, and midranger jumpers. Green, Parker, and Smart space the floor. Defensively, Chuck and Price are our weakest links, but the rest of the rotation ranges from above average to elite. In particular, the perimeter help instincts of Tatum, Green, and Smart make it harder to isolate favourable matchups, and there's strong rim protection at all times from Parish and Outlaw.

Matchup
- Smart moves into the starting five to match up with Nash, as we need someone who can fight through screens so we aren't forced into problematic switches. This gives us the best chance to contain flaco's pick-and-roll attack, especially since Nash himself getting off a shot is one of the worst outcomes for us. Price guards Bridges, Tatum T-Mac, Chuck-Cliffy, Parish-Amar'e.
- Cliffy is a great defender, but his major weakness is his putrid defensive rebounding which is even more damaging against a guy like Chuck. On the other end, he's legitimately one of the most horrific playoff scorers in NBA history, so his ability to attack Chuck in any meaningful way is very much in question.
- We've got a pick-and-roll maestro of our own in Price, who should be able attack Amar'e in space to either create for himself or hit Parish on the roll/pop.
- Outlaw aside, we're generally getting more two-way ability from our role players with the shooting of Green and Parker and the secondary playmaking of Smart (who is at least comfortable taking threes if not very consistent). Ben and Miami Bowen are offensive liabilities, and Caruso isn't much of a threat either.

Good luck flaco.

Rotation
PG: Steve Nash (36) / Alex Caruso (12)
SG: Mikal Bridges (36) / Alex Caruso (12)
SF: Tracy McGrady (24) / Bruce Bowen (24)
PF: Clifford Robinson (36) / Tracy McGrady (12)
C: Amar'e Stoudemire (36) / Ben Wallace (12)

Offense
We play at breakneck pace. The plan is to run Parish off the floor by a) initiating offense before the D is set around him and b) forcing him to defend in space. Parish was never asked to defend in space. He'd be all the place trying to defend the PnR. Option #1 is the Nash-Amar'e PnR. We hunt the Price mismatch on the perimeter. Cliffy/Amar'e sets off ball picks to force the switch. If the deny the switch, we just attack the mismatch. PnR is hands down the most lethal team move in basketball. With the right group of players, it becomes an unstoppable move. I'd argue we have the perfect team to spam the PnR while Fade lacks the defensive personel to slow us down. Nash is arguably the best PnR ball handler of all time. He was a truly elite shooter, facilitator and ball handler. No other player in the modern era has ever reached elite level at all these 3 skills. MVP Nash and prime Amar'e should be unguardable. We know for a fact they had perfect synergy. Option #2 is T-Mac creating shots either for himself or for his teammates. He was an underrated passer, especially for a 6'8'' Forward. Cliffy and Bridges are mostly used as floor spacers, but can put the ball on the floor and create their own shot if necessary. Cliffy is a former all-star who averaged 18.5 points/game in his selected season on 56.4 TS%.

Defense
Amar'e drops. Nash pre-switches and peels off to the corner. Bridges and Caruso are my POA defenders. They go over / fight through the pick against Price to deny the 3. Wing D should be strong with 6 switchable defenders on the roster including 6'5'' Caruso and 6'9'' Ben Wallace who can comfortably switch ball screens on the perimeter. Cliffy made the all-defensive 2nd team in his selected season and ranked 8th in the DPOY voting. Having 3 defensive specialists coming off the bench should provide extra defensive toughness.

I've got Flaco here. Nash/Amare is already a lot to deal with and TMac in the mix just makes them that much more dangerous and most importantly keeps Tatum occupied defensively. Seems like Chuck will be the last line of defense more often than not which is going to be tough. Fade's team will obviously get there's on the other end - there's nobody who's credibly checking Chuck or Tatum. But in a battle of offenses, I just tend to trust Flaco's team more.

I like the big 3 of Barkley, Tatum and Price a bit more than Nash, Tmac and Amare, with Tatum's wing defense being a better balance. Barkley and Parish could have a strong rebounding series which hurts the fastbreak offense. Vote Fade.

Both teams fit really well. I think the matchup favors Fade Slightly more overall. I think Barkley will have a big series vs Amare and Clifford

My main problem for flaco is Nash-Tracy being too vulnerable defensively to contain Price and Tatum. Cliffy will be too occupied here with Barkley even though he could help with wings generally.

Fade's team has a nice click offensively, even though flaco clicks a bit better. Due to matchup concerns and overall a bit better depth,
