Some of you may remember a game very similar to the one I am about to present to you that was run a few months ago. Well, I ran that and thought I did a fairly good job (for the most part), but everything kind of fell apart at the end. With some lessons learned from that, I know I can do a better job this time around. So let's get to the rules.

It's basically just a draft of all NBA players. You can select anyone in the league. There will be 30 teams (1 poster per team), like the real NBA.

There will be 12 rounds, and it will be a modified draft order (keep reading for the full order). You are trying to build the best team possible for this season. That means you shouldn't draft someone based on 3 years in the future or 3 years in the past. Also, keep in mind that we'll vote on how good the teams would actually be, not how much talent they have.

Trading will be allowed during and after the draft.

Here is the draft order:

Round 1: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-14-15-16
Round 2: 16-15-14-13-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1
Round 3: 16-15-14-13-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1
Round 4: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-14-15-16
Round 5: 16-15-14-13-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1
Round 6: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-14-15-16
Round 7: 16-15-14-13-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1
Round 8: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-14-15-16

Numbers will be randomly assigned. Remember, You can pick any current NBA player, and you are trying to build the best team for this season. Note the words "team" and "this season". It shouldn't be merely a collection of talent; the players should play well together. Also, you're basing this on how you think the players will play this season.

If someone has a minor injury right now, then health doesn't matter much. But if they're going to be out for awhile, then it does play a role.

When trading, all parties must agree to the trade on this message board, and I must accept it.

In the case of adding/dropping a player (again I must accept it), simply post your desired transaction. This request will probably only be granted in the case of injury or uneven rosters due to trading, though.

Once the draft is complete and a further trading period has elapsed, the top 16 teams will be ranked, and we will proceed to a 16-team playoff.

This ranking will come either from a collection of posters not participating in this draft, or from the 30 players in this draft. I'd prefer the former, but I suppose we can have a vote on that.

I would be careful with using all 30 teams in a snake order for a draft. This is a superstar's league and the people picking around 15-20 are going to be in serious trouble from the start waiting around another 10-30 places for their 2nd pick with Someone like Boozer being their centerpiece.

By pick our city, you mean for naming purposes, correct (you would be Team Detroit, for example)? I suppose we could do that, if everyone is up for it.

If we do, I'll take Miami.

will salaries be taken into consideration? like if my team has a payroll of 300million will taht be held against me?

if we're picking random cities, and not just nba cities, i'll take the anaheim arsenal

Yes, I thought about that, and I'm willing to tweak things. But I like the idea of 30 teams. If you remember, almost every team was stacked in the last one (10 teams). This makes the talent more spread out, and places a larger emphasis on carefully drafting/trading, IMO.

Also, if you'll notice, rounds 2 and 3 are both in reverse order to further bridge the gap between the first pick and the last pick.

I would prefer to completely disregard salaries.

But I'd like to emphasize that this is a flexible process. By no means are things set in stone. Take what CellarDoor said, for example. Perhaps the players in the middle/later part of the first round do have a significant disadvantage. I'm willing to take suggestions as to how to make things fairer. Should Round 4 be in reverse order, as well?

I know I don't have alot of posts but I am definitely active. I am on real gm every day. I would like to take portland as my team but can I name my team after it takes shape?

The current draft order probably gives the top few picks an unfair advantage. I'm strongly considering revamping the order. Stay tuned.

An idea for the rankings you could have each team rank every team but their own. That should produce a fair ranking.
