The 0.44 in TS%

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Mon Jan 20, 2020 8:50 pm

0.44 is used instead of 0.5 as an estimate to account for 3pt fouls and techs

Am I missing something or is using this number compared to the “exact” version somewhat outdated? Shouldn’t basketball-reference or nba.com easily be able to track exactly how many 2 point fouls, 3 point fouls and technicals each individual player has drawn and then put that into the formula? I guess you can’t use it with old players hence creating the need for old TS%, but maybe have a TS%+ on the bball reference page like OPS+

basketball reference as far as i know dont use actual possession count for pretty much anything, stats.nba does but i dont think they use it for ts%. PBPstats uses the actual count as far as I know

I contacted bbref about this, and they responded 2 months later to tell me they are working on it.

Paywall but CTG does points per true shooting possession, so basically an accurate TS*2
