I just wanted to give a special shoutout to those people that are coming over to the Nationals board, noticed W2L recently joined along with Pine, myself, Jollay, Scabs, craig01. Thanks fellas, it's fun to talk baseball when the team is actually winning. And if I missed anyone, my bad, didn't mean to.

I've found no matter how good you were at some things if you don't do them for a while you sort of suck at them. I used to be awesome at sliding. In my two attempts to slide the other night in a softball game One I tripped coming into second and almost tackled the second baseman when i didn't actually get down (broke up the double play there at least hahah) and on the other I missed the back with my extended foot and got tagged out on my bent leg going into third on a perfect throw, but if I get the slide in correctly safe. Also on this last slide i got alot of scrapes which is fun to let the kids know why I got them. I like playing on slippery grass fields with kids better ;)

Got a nice little seat location upgrade tonight at the select-a-seat thing.
Now in 105 row j - not that far from the floor. Great value for price.

Are there any players who will have negotiated a buyout of their last year in Europe, only to be locked out and get zip over here? That'd suck.

The perks of having being absurdly overpaid in the NBA.

Pure weirdness as I work on my draft pick analysis project. Beginning in 1985, the Bullets had the 12th pick 4 consecutive years. Their "haul" -- Kenny Green, John Williams, Muggsy Bogues and Harvey Grant.

Ahhh....John Williams. Loved his game...until he blew out his knee and became Fat John "Hot Plate" Williams. He had one of the most diverse, all-around games of any big man in the NBA. John could pass, handle, rebound and score, and he was just beginning to show his skilz when he got hurt. Williams would have been an all-star, imo, and probably one of the best 12th picks ever.

Yeah, Williams could play. Looking at 4-year production (length of the current rookie contract -- 3 years plus the option), Williams was among the better 12th picks in the lottery era. In terms of total production, only Thaddeus Young, Mookie Blaylock and Muggsy Bogues surpassed him. In terms of PER, Williams was #1 among 12th picks since 1985.

The 12th pick is a pretty unimpressive group. With Williams, Bogues and Grant, the Bullets actually got 3 of the top 5 in 4-year production among 12th picks.

He would be CCJ's favorite player in today's NBA.

Thanks! I appreciated the memories. After seeing the video, the other thing that I'm reminded of about Hot Plate is his high b'ball IQ. He was a very instinctive b'ball player. At one point in the video (after Williams makes a sweet steal) the play-by-play man says: "Maybe he's not in shape, but he knows the game."

Anybody see the U.S. women beat Brazil in World Cup? That was one of the most amazing wins in U.S. women's soccer history. Incredible match.

That's one NBA player who had my 50-yr old physique. No, he's less muscular and higher in body fat in those pictures than I am now--unbelievable for a pro athlete.

Watching Hot Plate getting winded made me want a sandwich or a burger.

He had serious trouble getting off the ground! Otherwise, he really was quite a good player.

Turns out I was at Yao Ming's final NBA game. Too bad his body didn't let him play longer.

Something about age 27 and drug addict rockers; Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison, Cobain, now Winehouse. Too bad.
