So folks want to trade McGee because he's an "idiot"...and then turn around and trade for DeMarcus Cousins. When did Cousins become some sort of basketball genius? It's six and half a dozen IMO. Maybe the aren't idiots in the same things, but we are guaranteed to have problems with either one.
We shouldn't just be looking to get out of the Blatche/McGee business. We should be looking to get out of the "idiot" business altogether. That rules Cousins out IMO.

Agreed 100%. The guy is going to fail, or at minimum succedd on the Zach Randolph 10 yr plan. This is why I thought, and still think, the Monroe was the best big in the draft last year. Basketball intelligence is difficult to quantify, but it matters.
If we want a UK running mate for Wall, Patrick Patterson is a better bet. He's smart, physical, and skilled, just a bit undersized, and unfortunately increasingly valued by Houston. If they flip Scola in the offseason, Patterson's going to be the beneficiary.

Memphis may pull the trigger, they do get a backup C project. They may be more interested in moving Mayo though, and I think they may want more in the pot.
Nah. McGee has more value than this. So far, Henry hasn't proven to be even a rotation-caliber player yet. McGee still has star-caliber upside at a difficult to fill position.
Nate, McGee will never be a star. He's a complete idiot on the court. He still cannot play any sort of positioning defense. Its comical watching him get baited into jumping and fouling the player he's guarding. Its comical watching the stupid goaltends he gets every game. I think he's going to set an NBA record for most goaltends in a season. Trade him while you can.
Doubt Cleveland does it, but I'd EASILY trade the ATL pick+McGee for the LAC pick.
I think Patrick Ewing is the current holder of that award.

I'm just opposed to trading him for a mediocre swing man who, if things breaks right, might pan out to be a rotation-worthy role player. At least trade him for more of a sure thing like Batum. Either that, or do what you suggested and trade for a late lotto pick. I'd aim for a 2012 pick though.
If the Wizards are trading McGee to Memphis, I can't see any reason to do it unless Gasol is coming back in return.
This board in general totally undervalues McGee.
I believe he is more than a little better than average. McGee outplayed Bogut this year. He helped beat the Celtics.
This time last year most of the posters on this board said Nick was an idiot. He barely played this preseason. I noted this time last year the ONE game where Nick pretty much destroyed Wade at both ends. I knew no matter what I read the guy can play.
I know McGee can play well. The game he had 25 points and 15 rebounds in less than 30 mins--only guy to do so since McHale in 1984, let me know he can be an effective player.
The guy doesn't have to be a star to be effective.
I am so happy to agree with you, CCJ (at least partly)! It seems like it has been so long.
I have much more hope for McGee than Blatche. Much of Nick's improvement is attributable to the coaches simplifying the game for him and him settling into his role. I think there's a chance McGee can do that. A key will be surrounding him with high-energy, high-IQ teammates, but I can see that happening. I completely agree that McGee doesn't need to be a star to impact the game.
One of the reasons Blatche's low IQ is so harmful to the team is because he's a pretty high usage guy, whereas you could never run a play for McGee and he can get you 15 points on dunks. That will never happen with Dray. Add in the fact that Dray has already been extended and McGee is still on his rookie deal tells me Blatche has to go and we can take a wait and see approach with Javale.
Javale will likely never reach "his potential" but I can still see him as a very valuable 20-25 mpg 3rd big who changes the game with his athleticism going against backups.

Re: Official Trade Thread XV
You'd trade McGee and the ATL pick for who exactly?
Stop being infatuated with the spot of the pick, and focus on the player we'd actually get. There are no centers in this draft that are better than McGee IMO. So why trade him for a pick in a weak draft with no centers? Makes no sense at all.
Sometimes these players need to mature. Nick Young, who was considered this time last year as trade fodder, is now a "building block" according to some. Give McGee more time...he at least deserves that much.

I'm on the fence for this exact reason, maybe another season starting at Center, maybe another offseason of workouts/conditioning, and maybe he gets it. On the other hand, the guy is still biting on every pump fake, still goaltends at least 2-3 times per game. You HOPE he gets it, but it doesn't seem like he is. He's still making rookie mistakes in his 3rd year.

Just speaking for myself, my point wasn't that the Wiz should necessarily trade Javale - it was that he deserves all the criticism he gets. He's earned it in spades (not to mention hearts, clubs, and diamonds). Still, I wouldn't even consider that trade suggestion for X Henry. But I'd trade him for Cousins in a heartbeat, because Cousins - while immature - has shown much better skills and instincts for the game - and nearly won an NCAA championship - with our PG - as a freshman.
