The summer Manute was drafted, before I (or anyone) even knew who he was, he'd work on his game by himself at the outdoor courts of Hine Jr High in SE. I was attending a basketball camp there for a few weeks and saw him nearly everyday. I don't remember him ever really saying anything. But I do remember how focused he was. How he'd practice layup after layup or hook shot after hook shot for hours at a time. I definitely remember how freakishly tall & skinny he was. If you stood next to him and looked up, you could barely get to his chest before your blinded by the sun. None of us kids knew who he was though, so after the first day or two the curiosity wore off and we all pretty much let him be as he seemed intent on working on his game. It was only months later after he was drafted and it was mentioned he had been practing at Hine prior to the draft that I finally put the two together.

RIP Manute.

Don't recall seeing this posted. Good memorial encapsulation of Bol's life and mission to raise awareness of the tragic conflict in Sudan. He was a pretty remarkable man.
