G'Town- Syracuse is on right now on ESPN.

I have a buddy that's very plugged into the HS recruiting circuit, and he told me before this kid popped for Gtown that this kid has enormous potential. He thinks that he has top 15 in his class type talent, and he told me that the kids present ranking (37th in ESPNs power 60) is going to look laughably low by the middle of next season. Tremendous get.

Lifted from Hoyatalk:

Isaac Copeland will be a Hoya.

2014 four-star prospect Isaac Copeland won’t be staying home for college but he won’t be going far from home either.

On Sunday the 6-9, 200-pound small forward Charlottesville (Va.) Miller School committed to Georgetown.

A number of schools were recruiting Copeland but the main competitors with Georgetown were Florida State and North Carolina State.

Ranked No. 32 by 247Sports and with a No. 40 247Composite ranking, Miller is Georgetown’s first commitment in the 2014 class.

A prospect on the rise, Copeland could very easily move up the rankings as he continues to mature and improve. He has tremendous length for a small forward and is athletic and skilled. In fact, Copeland resembles current Georgetown star Otto Porter in many aspects.

From CasualHoya:

Reggie Rankin again:
ESPN 60 No. 37 overall Isaac Copeland (Raleigh, N.C./The Miller School) has committed to Georgetown over offers from Boston College, NC State, Saint Joseph’s, Virginia and West Virginia, among others, after unofficially visiting the Hoyas with his parents this weekend for the Syracuse game. Copeland is the first commitment for Georgetown in the 2014 class.
“I kind of knew I wanted to go there, I just needed to go see it,” Copeland said.
“I picked Georgetown because of the great academics, great coaching and great tradition. I didn’t know how much tradition they had until I got to the Syracuse game.”
The Hoyas are getting a very long and athletic combination forward in Copeland. He runs the floor well and finishes above the rim with flair. He scores with his back to the basket and with high, elevating turn shots. He is most comfortable facing, where he can hit the open jumper to the arc when his feet are set or can put it on the floor to get all the way to the rim.
Copeland is a good and willing passer from the high post and along the baseline when he draws multiple defenders. He will also rebound and start the break with a bust-out dribble. Copeland is simply a tough matchup for positions 2 through 4 on the high school level.
“I think I can be similar to Greg Whittington and Otto Porter after they showed me film,” he said.
In the Hoyas’ Princeton-style offense, Copeland’s size and skill will make him an immediate success. He can post smaller defenders, execute dribble handoffs, throw the backdoor pass, or make a play off the dribble or catch. In the man or matchup zone defense, he will be able to defend inside and out because of his great length and mobility. Copeland has great upside and will fit in very well for coach John Thompson III on both ends of the floor.

Hoyas are probably gonna have to finish ahead of Louisville in the Big East tourney if they want a 1 seed, although personally I think they both could get 1 seeds(think Duke and Indiana have the other 1s on lock).

If it boils down to it, Georgetown won the head to head against Louisville this season but you are right, they might have to win the whole thing to get a top seed. I would have thought for sure before they lost to Nova.

I'm just not sold on Gonzaga. It is what it is...they play in a crappy conference, cupcake schedule. They are partially at fault, but nobody wants to play them, so it's a double edged sword. I think Duke and IU, especially after today's win at Michigan have the other 2 spots locked up.

Fwiw, Isaac Copeland has been called an "Otto Porter with athleticism".

Works for me. :D

Kudos to former GTown PG (and Bowie, MD native) Chris Wright for being signed by the Mavs. Sounds like Chris was having a solid year with the Iowa NBDL team. I hope he sticks, but even if he doesn't it should give him some confidence that he may be NBA material...after not getting drafted in 2011.

Yeah I'm not giving Gonzaga a 1 seed. I know they're ranked #1 right now but I think Indiana, Duke, and Georgetown are all better. Louisville is probably better too. And then you got teams like Kansas and Michigan, among others. But the Zags should get a 2 seed, no lower.

Thanks, closg. Enjoyed the Chris Wright memories. I thought he and Freeman were a helluva backcourt. Then Austin had issues with diabetes and Chris broke his hand during his senior year.

Otto Porter named Big East player of the year. JT 3 named Big East coach of the year. Congrats to both.
