Re: NBA Games Discussion Thread
Like a million years ago, I worked front desk at a hotel. We had an employee who did everything well, but would usually show up for the morning shift 10-15 minutes late. He'd get there at 6:40-6:45 instead of 6:30. He was never late actually getting onto the front desk -- the first 30 minutes were to give folks time to prep (count the cash drawer, that kind of thing). No one had a problem with it -- only thing he was hurting was his own paycheck.
Then the front desk manager changed. The new guy noticed this employee coming in late. He didn't just go over to the regularly late employee and say, "Shift starts at 6:30. You need to be here at 6:30." He went back over the employee's time cards for the 18 months he'd been working for the hotel. Then came to him with "sanctions" like a formal reprimand for his file and a 6-month probation period.
To which all of us said, "WTF?"
This is what Stern is trying to do. I can understand fully where he's coming from. But imposing sanctions on the Spurs for doing the exact same thing they've been doing for years -- that's a problem.
The appropriate thing for Stern to do is to say: This practice stops. If players are healthy, they should be in the lineup. The next team that does this kind of thing will face serious sanctions.

Maybe the Spurs should have at least had the guys travel with the team and dress but just get DNP-CD. It does seem odd that they just told them to stay home.
The real question is what does Stern do when this happens in April?

My bad on the back-to-back. But my argument still stands. Pop could have limited those players minutes against the Heat. What Pop did sets a bad precedent that the NBA absolutely should not want to see proliferate.
Or he could have not played them at all and given them DNPs. Precisely what would the NBA do under that scenario?
I understand where Stern is coming from, but at the end of the day it's at the coaches discretion who plays and who doesn't, and the league has no business dictating to teams how they manage their players minutes.
Stern, not very much unlike the Arenas situation, blew this issue way out of proportion to appease the mob.

Blatche with the highest +/- for the Nets and a nice stat-line.

Just watched the Cavs beat ATL w/o Irving, Waiters was key with 7 assists and 21 points. Gee with the game-winner . Dat was right about Waiters.

Yeah, well how about Grunfeld letting Gee get away?
I'd also like to point out that Waiters is looking in pretty good shape compared to how he looked in summer league. Pretty sure that the Cavs would have never put up with Blatche ballooning the way he did when he was with Washington.
Oh yeah, and Blatche is still a bama, regardless of what the numbers say.

Whoah, Woj! Stern's not going to like that one bit. Watch him get his media credentials revoked.

BREAKING: Stern fines Wizards $500,000 for starting Jan Vesely, AJ Price, Trevor Ariza, and Emeka Okafor. States that such a lineup is "a disservice to the league and fans".

It is good to see Jamison performing so well. Pretty remarkable considering he is 36 years old. Antawn has really been a big beneficiary of the Lakers choosing D'Antoni as coach. He's had a 19/15 and now a 33/12 game under Mike D.
A couple games back another former Wizard, Caron Butler, also scored 33 points. Butler hit 9 threes, almost a Clipper record.

Bye bye Beal.

More fodder for the Gasol trade rumors

Re: NBA Games Discussion Thread
It'd be smarter to take minutes away from Artest instead.

Artest doesn't play in the NBA. Metta World Peace took his body and stole all his talent.

Lakers lost to the Magic AT HOME... Hilarious part of it all was the Magic employed the Hack-a-Howard in the 4th and got hot from 3. This tweet from the Magic is hilarious.
Dwight is still on the team without even realizing it. LOL.
@Orlando_Magic: Dwight Howard is 7-of-19 from the free throw line and it has allowed the Magic to take a commanding lead.
