Open Roster spot

Post#1 » by nuposse04 » Thu Feb 20, 2014 9:46 pm

Mods can merge this if they feel it is redundant with some other thread.

So now that the trade deadline is complete, we should at least get better PG play for the remainder of the season. But while we're all being armchair GM's why not see who everyone would fill the last roster spot with.

I'm not a big D-League follower (I'm some others are) but there have to be centers out there that could be better then Seraphin, or at least provide us with decent depth.

I noticed Kadji is on the list, I liked him as a stretch 4, maybe some potential there? Ivan Johnson is redundant with Booker but he could be a solid pickup as well. Doubt James Singleton has much left...

Fab Melo still can't find a niche in the league :nonono:

So, who would you all pick up?

uhhh, I mean Current FAs...trying to find some gems in the D-League...we can't get ANY of the guys on your wishlist :/

If nothing else lets bring back Collins so we get some televised games. PR exploitation ftw.

we already have Harrington...can't see why we'd take on Jamison as well. I think getting a banger is more important.

I could see that. Especially if Jamison is angling for a FO position post-retirement. Of course, he may want to keep his distance until the smoke clears re: Grunfeld's future.

Kalin Lucas
Dee Bost

I wouldn't rule out Jason Collins, either.

He has no upside, obviously, but he's a decent post defender, and a big w/ 6 fouls at the end of the bench. A cynic might point out that he would spike some ticket sales for Ted and/or earn us a few flex spots on ESPN or TNT. An altruist might argue that signing Collins -- even if only for his symbolic value -- is an important and historic step to take, and is thus worth signing even it means passing on a marginally better big to rot on the bench. The aforementioned cynic might counter that signing Collins would be a craven attempt by the NBA to beat the NFL to the punch.

Agree on Singleton. IIRC, Harrington is practicing again so we may see him during the playoffs. We MUST get another 7 footer for playoff depth, even if it is Ohlbrecht (Who-else is available?) No-thanks Re: Collins.

No on Jason, This has nothing to do with him being gay. There are plenty of young big's sitting in the D League waiting to get a shot at the big leagues and they are all better than him. He should only be brought back as a last resort desperation option, as in every one else tells us no.

Jason Collins has been a terrible player for years now. Move on. Find someone who has a chance of being useful.

Collins would be purely a PR business move. I could see why Ted would do it if he had no plans to sign anyone, but we need to find a diamond in the rough. Booker is solid this season but if he keeps playing well I wonder if we'll be able to retain him. Seraphin, I know the stats will say he sucks again this season, but at least in '14 he's looked like somewhat of a backup big, still needs lots of work. I'd like them to bring in a big stretch 4 (kadji) or a defensive shot blocker/banger. I just don't know who the latter of such a description would be.

I just pray that EG doesn't sign Shavelick Randolph.

Well I posted 4 near 7Ft or 7 foot guys,
Ohlbrecht,
http://basketball.realgm.com/player/Tim ... mmary/2414

He is playing well in the D league, his shooting % is good, his FT % is not terrible for a big boy, and hes rebounding well.

Hamilton
http://basketball.realgm.com/player/Jus ... mmary/9475
Hamilton is just destroying everything right now, just go look at his DL stats and watch him play.

Gladness
http://basketball.realgm.com/player/Mic ... mary/11006
He's nothing special, hes older and has been in the D league for a while, But hes a big body who can play D.

Dedmon
http://basketball.realgm.com/player/Dew ... mary/28991
I wanted to pick him up in the draft! He is averaging a double double, with 2 blocks and over 50 shooting %

Hamilton and Dedmon are probably the most intriguing of those guys. I have no idea how they are as defenders via the highlight videos i found but at least Hamilton looks like he can stretch defenses.

Dedmon seems fairly physical and athletic inside. Has legit size according to DX...

So it is almost an absolute EG won't look at either of em :P

I'd be tempted to give Tiny Gallon a shot. He just needs to get/keep his weight down. He can be an instant offense big off the bench. And he measured surprisingly long, as I recall. He's actually younger than Kadji, btw.

You can never have too much depth at the backup no-D finesse PF position. Remember, it's the Wizards.
