Right, but I've seen Hibbert challenge shots inside the restricted area and not get charged with a foul because of the verticality rule. It's not like all contact in the restricted area automatically gets held against the defender, right?
For one thing the no charge rule doesn't apply to defenders guarding their own man.
IIRC, it is meant to apply to help defenders.
You can commit an offensive foul running over your defender or by things like using
your off arm and such.
