Predict the Wizards Record '23-'24 season

Post#22 » by WallToWall » Mon Oct 23, 2023 11:43 pm

Given the current lineup at the start of the season, we are a bad team. We have no interior players that are starting quality. We will consistently be outmatched in the interior. In fact, I can’t think of any team that has a worse set of interior players. In the guard and SF positions , we have a good player in Poole, and slightly above average players in Kuzma and Wright. Every other player has something to prove. As constructed, I predict 24 wins for this team. Trades will change the outcome. 13th place.
[edit] that said, I am bullish on our outlook. We seem to have a plan. I wanted us to blow it up. We did. Now we have a rebuild. This is what I wanted and I am glad we are going this direction. I will take the low win total because we (hopefully) will have dividends later.

Hey, right now we are tied for 1st in our division, so not going to depress myself by looking ahead. Just going to enjoy the first game of our new team unless and until the suckitude starts.

23 wins, 14th in the East. Slide to 4th in the lottery. Take another small forward, trade him for 3 second round draft picks in 2027.

20 wins. 15th in the East. Clearly the worst team in the NBA. Would like them to beef up the C spot, where Gafford/Muscala will be overwhelmed on the boards nightly. They wouldn’t improve much, but be better to watch.

I'm actually a little surprised at the pessimism so far.

I just think it's real hard to lose with consistency in this league if you play hard. The 3-ball provides enough variance that bad teams can beat anybody when they're hot, and good teams can lose to anybody when the shots aren't falling. You are gifted 20 wins on that phenomenon alone.

Also, I really don't expect much tanking this year. The flattened lotto odds and play-in tournament have pretty much squelched the motivation for tanking, except for last year when Wemby was available.

In the past several years, the only truly bad teams with sub-24 wins were teams that were designed to tank from Day 1 because they had virtually no NBA-caliber players (2020-21 Pistons), or started 5 guys under age 23 (like the 2021-22 Magic); or they were broken teams like the Houston Rockets with such a horrible culture that they didn't even try (like the 2020-21 Rockets).

A team like the Wizards with 7 or 8 competent NBA players who will try hard every night is going to accidentally win 24+ games.

I'm usually pretty negative, but I'll go with 30 wins. I believe this team has more talent on paper than the analysts are giving them credit for. Poole/Kuzma will have stretches off crazy offensive production that leads to some wins. We're going to see nights where they on fire like vs. the Knicks, and then you'll see blowouts like vs. the Craptors. It's going to be a wild season.

In my case, I wanted to pick a number no one had yet landed on. At least that makes it possible to be the winner.

Silly, I know.

In fact I don't think we'll be a 21-win team. Had 27 wins been available, that's what I'd have chosen.

The o/u this year was 23.5. I'm going with 27 wins. 14th in the East b/c I think we'll be better than Detroit.

Edit: I feel like I'm high on this team but rebounding is going to be an issue and more than likely we're going to flip Gallo and Shamet at the deadline for second round picks. IDK, like how bad is this team really going to be? Folks are thinking less than 20 wins which will be historically bad.

26 wins, 14th seed, I am predicting a Detroit injury plagued meltdown.

Edit: And so it starts...

In response to Nate- my prediction of 23 wins is based on what should be one of the 3 worst defenses in the league and my hope that we sell off our older vets for longer term assets. It’s possible Charlotte will completely implode and be worse than us this year but I wouldn’t bet on it.

I'm going with 30 wins and 14th place. Deni will have a breakout season and show that his contract is a great deal for the Zards.

We'll get crushed on the boards most nights, but the D will be better than expected with Bilal, Delon, Deni and Johnny D as our top defenders.
