Not saying it was "botched," but this from the Post this morning:

Arenas said the knee is feeling far better now than it did in the first weeks and months following the original surgery last April.

"That one took five months to heal," Arenas said. "With this one, after I got my surgery, I was able to bend it right away. With the first one, I couldn't bend it for two months. I know y'all saw me on crutches after this surgery but I could've been walking the first week after the surgery but they told me not to."

And yeah, Happy 26th to Gil.

I thought this was a very interesting piece of news

and potentially very hopeful news.

Gil is being more thoughtful about this. I think it could, might, may
end up resulting in him NOT opting out. It would indeed be VERY
bold of him to opt out after missing perhaps the entire season.
I'm betting he won't do that. If he's really ready and can play
without risking his career AND if he sees that him playing could
make a realistic difference, he'll be there. If not, he probably won't.
edit to add - if he does play, then he WOULD opt out assuming he
performs as he has in the recent past.

Obviously the possibility of losing him is disconcerting. But I think
the right thing will happen in the end. He'll be back. But we are
talking Gilbertology here so anything is possible.

Will Jamison be back? There's been a lot of talk that maybe he'd
sign for around $8M. Considering how well he's been playing, I
wonder if that is realistic. Would another team attempt to out bid
us for AJ? His age is obviously a factor but his production really
shouldn't be overlooked.

How will the team, the 2 players in question and their respective
agents all handle this? I've no idea.

Very interesting in deed.

As for GA and opting out or not. It really shouldnt be any big deal to Gil. If he doesnt opt out his contract is only for next year. Then he can do the same things he wanted to do this year.

If he is looking long term as was stated in the article then he really isnt in any hurry to return. If it works out that he is ready in March, great. If not, he will take the summer to get better and come back to prove his worth on the open market next year.

Man, when Arenas comes back in March he will be the baddest 6th man every. He can be our scorer off the bench. LOL

It's always so difficult to know what to make of anything Gil says. He is by nature mercurial, a trickster figure who tends to overreact to things. I liken his two post op rehab approaches to how he is as a point guard.

After a game where his shot isn't falling and he gets criticism for jacking, he'll often pull out one of these no-shoot games. After getting shut down, he'll come out jacking.

After getting hurt, he went too hard, too soon after his rehab. Now, he seems intent on adjusting that by being really conservative.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not a hater. Gil is my favorite local athlete by a long shot... it's just that I see his reaching his potential as a player coinciding with him learning to operate on a more even keel.

Music to my ears.
Just let the young boys play! It's truly the only hope at this point.
