Had this song in my head. Caravan Palace Dirty Side of the Street (here's a live version):

They put on a great high energy show, too bad I just missed their East Cast US date in NYC yesterday.

Studio version:

There's a ton of gritty interesting electroswing out there, upbeat funky and funny.

No veo. Didn't see them on there. On the other hand, nostalgically, the pixies came on thru.

Love me some pixies. Wish I could take lunch and see them play at my work. Bastards.

The video isn't on there cuz they are playing the fifth (upcoming). I'm going. Check back to the NPR site after the fifth. Also, I might try to post pics, if I get any good ones.

Difficult Run String Band is playing Great Falls Fest Sunday afternoon. I think we'll be playing
off and on from 1-4ish

It's at the Grange off Georgetown Pike.

Can I make a request. You might need an extra thumb to play the guitar. Had Enough (Scheoch, 1991)

Reggie Watts pulls off the impossible: a perfect cover of Van Halen's "Panama," flat nails it.

PS - I love The AV Club's Uncovered series - they bring in (mostly) indie bands to cover famous pop/rock songs. check it out if you haven't already.

This is just sick! I loved planet rock back in the 80's.

I played golf the other day with a local musician Marcus Johnson. I had no idea who he was but if you like Jazz he has some great songs. He said playing golf was harder than playing piano.

He does some cover stuff as well. Enjoy

I just found out the Brothers Johnson were not the ones who originally covered one of my all time favorite songs.

This guy influenced everyone from 70s rockers to Prince and has been sampled by Outkast and Beyonce, among others. George Clinton, of Parliament, I just read sampled Shuggie Otis' work, also. I hear everything from Hendrix, to Hall and Oates, to DeBarge in Otis' music. And I had never heard of Shuggie Otis!

On his Inspiration Information album of 40 years ago, you can hear it all. Everything from cool jazz, to funk, to blues, to pop. Shuggie also plays several instruments, in addition to being a decent vocalist.

Bye bye Beal.

What had been looking like a fairly routine weekend has become a bit busier.

In addition to (DRSB) playing Lake Anne in Reston (Sat 11-1) my other band,
The Stewart Sisters, will be playing St Elmos on Mt Vernon Dr (Alexandria) tonight from 7-9
and the Arlington Farmers Market (near Glebe and Columbia Pk) Sunday morning.

I'm going to try and swing by tomorrow morning. Any idea approximately when? The market is like 9 - 1 pm.

PS: I think you're referring to the Columbia Pike Farmer's Market at Columbia Pike and Walter Reed.

After years of open invitations, I finally managed to see dobrojim play, and it was worth the trip on a Sunday morning. The Stewart Sisters are a tight unit when they want to be, more spontaneous when they want to be, and have a large repertoire. The singers harmonize beautifully, the dobro was pretty damn special, and the five members (I think one was a guest appearance) put on a soulful performance. Thanks Jim!

Big thanks to MS for coming by and for his kind words. The other guitar player (guy)
was a guest member but is pretty good friends with the girls. He has his own band
but occasionally sits in with us.

I wasn't really very happy with how my Saturday gig went with my other band.
I didn't feel like I played very well. But when I first sat down and started to play
Sunday morning, things were clicking, I felt relaxed and happy. Me likey.

The other gig the SSers were supposed to play Fri night turned into a washout.
The venue mistakenly double-booked the date. So we left and ended up playing
across the street just for fun. This one young guy ended up wandering past and hung out
for a while. He was really liking what we were doing. That makes it all worthwhile
sometimes.

So St Elmos called apologizing to us for double booking last Friday and invited
us to play there Friday night which we agreed to do. With a fat paycheck like
that to be made, how could we say no.

So Friday night, St Elmos in the DelRay Section of Alexandria, Mount Vernon Ave.

The Stewart Sisters, live.
