Re: Spurs/Bullets 1979 on ESPN classic
watched it lat night on my dvr
kinda disappointing
30 min program
12-15 chatter between the host, BobbyD and Ice.
7-8 min at most of actual video of the game.
BobbyD with a clutch basket at the end, Unseld with clutch FTs.
Hayes with the game saving block just before the buzzer.

Re: Spurs/Bullets 1979 on ESPN classic
Agreed.
Could've been really good, if they'd only shown more of the actual game.
It struck me that it was so up and down for a game 7. Motta and Moe were the coaches, and they didn't seem to be trying to impose their wills on the game the way a lot of coaches do now, especially in the playoffs.
The shooting was better, the fundamentals were better. The players were less athletic, but I actually don't think that's such a bad thing. It also struck me that they didn't play as much D, and there wasn't as much talk of playing D. There wasn't as much talk, period. Also a good thing.
I think the game, if anything, was as good if not better to watch.
I also was reminded that I like the shorter shorts as opposed to the longer, droopier shorts. No tats, either.
And none of the moronic circus that you see nowadays, the hyping of the crowd, the constant ads, the constant bombardment of the senseless, the ceaseless reminders that you live in a capitalist state and must spend, spend, spend.
It was better.
And the theater effect of the Cap Centre, the darkening of the lights on the seats -- it made the action on the court look more dramatic. Very cool to see.
You know who was the impetus for getting rid of this, don't you? None other than Michael Jordan. The player, not the GM. He was on the Bulls at the time, and he moaned and moaned about it. He thought the dimness was because Abe couldn't afford lights.
The arrogance of presumption. The arrogance of Michael Jordan.

Everything about DC/MD/VA was better back then.
Local radio even played good music too.
