TyCobb's 2023 1st Round Mock Draft

Post#1 » by TyCobb » Thu Jun 8, 2023 3:11 am

Inspired by others, I thought I might give this a shot just to have something written down so I can look back on it in the future. I'm sure it'll be controversial, but it's what I think would work great for all involved.

1. San Antonio Spurs - C Victor Wembanyama
- Not much needs to be said here. Pretty obvious selection.
2. Charlotte Hornets - F Brandon Miller
- A big that can handle the ball, volume score, space the floor, and play defense to pair up with Melo seems like a good match.
3. Portland Trailblazers - G Scoot Henderson
- Best player available and immediate Lillard replacement who will be traded in my opinion.
4. Utah Jazz via Houston Rockets- F Jarace Walker
- Thinking Utah trades #9 and #16 for this pick and get who I think is their ideal guy in this draft. Fits team perfectly.
5. Detroit Pistons - G Anthony Black
- Floor general, defensive-minded, rebounding PG who I think is a great fit for this team here. They don't need buckets so Black it is.
6. Orlando Magic - G Amen Thompson
- Tall athletic, defensive minded guard who to me has shown some unselfishness and playmaking ability.
7. Indiana Pacers - F Taylor Hendricks
- Great all-around player, just seems like a perfect fit here and I do think he'll be available for them at this spot.
8. Washington Wizards - F Cam Whitmore
- This team could use some athleticism and toughness and seems like a good fit with decent upside.
9. Houston Rockets via Utah Jazz - C Dereck Lively
- I'm sure this will be considered a reach by most, but I think the length and defensive ability is a good match for Rockets whom I think will be active in FA for veterans.
10. Dallas Mavericks - G Ausar Thompson
- I see them trading this pick, but to who I have no idea. Just going with prospect that I think could be targeted by the recipient of the pick.
11. Orlando Magic - G Gradey Dick
- Best player available, will be able to provide the offensive scoring that Amen won't early on.
12. Oklahoma City Thunder - F Bilal Coulibaly
- I mean of course they would be fortunate to draft this guy here.
13. Toronto Raptors - G Cason Wallace
- Solid guard who fits the defensive makeup of this team well. Will look even better if FVV isn't there mid to long term.
14. New Orleans Pelicans - F Rayan Rupert
- Probably viewed as a reach, but I think a project of his upside is something they can afford with that roster construction right now.
15. Atlanta Hawks - F Leonard Miller
- Another upside player, but something that fits once again.
16. Houston Rockets via Utah Jazz - G Keyonte George
- I think Houston could move this pick. Move a pick they traded back to get. Yes, this is really fun to pretend this is how it plays out.
17. Los Angeles Lakers - G Jordan Hawkins
- Great scorer off the ball, something that is needed desperately on this team. Perfect fit.
18. Miami Heat - F GG Jackson
- In my opinion they need bench bigs and this guy seems like their typical good character high work ethic all around players.
19. Golden State Warriors - G Nick Smith Jr.
- Highly skilled player, seems like a good fit and would be a lucky pick up for the Warriors.
20. Houston Rockets - F Bobi Klintman
21. Brooklyn Nets - F Noah Clowney
22. Brooklyn Nets - G Brice Sensabaugh
23. Portland Trailblazers - F Sidy Cissoko
24. Sacramento Kings - F Kris Murray
25. Memphis Grizzlies - G Ben Sheppard
26. Indiana Pacers - G Kobe Bufkin
27. Charlotte Hornets - F Jett Howard
28. Utah Jazz - G Amari Bailey
29. Indiana Pacers - F Trayce-Jackson Davis
30. Los Angeles Clippers - G Jalen Hood-Schifino

Predictions: Beyond Utah trading up to get Jarace Walker, I just think there will be a ton of trades this draft.

don't know if Warriors take Nick Smith here unless Poole gets traded, we probably take someone more ready, TJD or Murray in this scenario if I had to guess

Why would a floor general be a perfect fit for the Pistons?
