Do buyouts affect the salary cap?

I think you misread Coon. A buyout wouid change the amount of guaranteed salary, which is what would apply to the team salary cap. If a player would be owed $10m for a full season, but agrees to give up $3m in salary in a buyout, then his guaranteed salary would be $7m, which would result in a change to the team salary.
