I like the and 1 feature but yes i do not use it too much either.

And 1 means (IMO) "this is a very good post and i agree with it". But when sb clicks it, people do not see who liked it. So no sense for the users to use it. quoting the original post and saying "i agree with this " is still a better option.

Facebook like approach can be more meaningful. A message like "Users x,y and z liked this", or "users x,y,z clicked and 1 for this post" would be better I think.

Or a more enhanced version, people can click "And 1/like" and also can type a small message(twitter like, 140 characters). And you can list these small messages and the people who liked the post between the signature part and the message. This would be more interesting I think.

Other than this I think user info & administration page should be more functional. For example I would like to list my quoted messages, and go directly to the relevant message.

And about browser issue. I am currently using Firefox 19.0 and I did not have any problems.

To improve the 'And 1' Feature, I think a user should get a notification or something like that showing that they got their comment liked. Kind of like how Facebook does it with their 'Like' system.

Also, keep track of how many And 1's someone gets throughout their time posting on RealGM. I think people would definitely make better posts if they knew some sort of all time record was being kept. Only problem with this is that people might not give And 1's to stay at the top or so the poster does not gain ground on them.

If you have a plus 1, you need a minus 1. Or remove it because it leads to circle jerking that will keep Colangelo around forever.

Thinking browser, first step is to get away from this crap phpbb. Give more options for the quick reply. And I hate that I have to clear cookies and how unread messages are based on your computer and not your account. So on the next computer I log into I can't just go to the first unread post.

And first unread posts don't work with tapatalk.

This. It didn't change anything. This is a discussion forum. Circumventing discussion is a bad thing, even if that means preventing someone from simply agreeing with another poster without feeling the need to write an explanation why. Not that you're enforcing such a policy, I just don't see the problem with it.

It was a good idea in theory, but not in practice. If only 10% or less of the forum even uses it (which appears the be the case), it's not really serving any purpose.

Along those lines (although this hasn't been discussed), I also don't care for the idea of rep points or red dots like other forums use. It turns whats supposed to be uninfluenced discussion into pandering for votes.

I personally like the 'AND 1' feature. I didn't read the thread, so apologies if someone already addressed the following points.

'AND 1' keeps me from quoting every post that I agree with, while allowing me to still show that I agree with it. Also, I feel it's respectful to respond to a post directed at me or my post. Sometimes I'm too busy to quote them & respond. The 'AND 1' feature allows me to acknowledge them without quoting them.

There are two problems, IMHO.

--Posters being allowed to change what they posted after I have already 'AND 1' their post. I think that we should have the option of removing our 'AND 1' if the post is changed/edited to something that we no longer agree with.

--Every time that I 'AND 1' a post, it sends me to the first page of the thread.

• By the user’s avatar, have a total of “1s” they got right below the number of total post.

• Once a post has more than 5 “And 1s”, highlight that post. Give it a golden border, bold the font, or maybe place a star by the post title.

• Have moderators enforce posters to use “And 1” in place of just duplicating a user’s post with a quote or just restating what the poster said. I think the “And 1” function can prevent flooding threads with noncontributing one-liners.
o For Example: If the Knicks won a game, and Carmelo Anthony had a great game, a poster might post “Melo was beasting”. If a poster agrees, he or she should use the “And 1” function, instead of just quoting “Melo was beasting” or replying with a quote like “Yea he was”, “I agree”, etc. "And 1" could probably also be used in replace of quoting a poster who said something funny by replying "lol" or " ".

[EDIT] I actually have to take the idea in red back. It really does not make too much sense. Anyone can post things like "Knicks were awesome, bad game, etc.", so there is no need for that poser to get "And 1s" because he or she said it first. "And 1s" should be given to quality post. And I really think a post should be highlighted or something if it reaches a certain amount of "And 1s" so it really sticks out in a thread. [END EDIT]

I love the “And 1” feature. I am not sure why I am one of the few posters who use it on the Knicks board.

2) Browser Issues - We have had reports of users seeing RealGM different with Different Browsers.

•Internet Explorer 9
o One of the issue I have is I frequently get the “connection error; cannot establish connection with the server, etc.” page. I would say it is merely my connection, but I get this error with RealGM more than any other website or web forums.
o Sometimes I get random freezes. The RealGM webpage might just suddenly freeze and stop completely. It happens with or without this error “Internet Explorer had to unexpectedly stop because the website is running a script”. I do not get this message as much as I used to, but I get it sometimes. Nonetheless, I still get random freezes with or without that error message box.

• Mozilla Firefox
o At my school they use Mozilla, and when using RealGM, sometimes it would use the entire computer’s memory (100%), which will cause the computer to freeze and stop functioning unless I close RealGM. I know other users had this issue as well. I have not experienced recently, so it might be fixed; however, I just thought it would be a good idea to state the issue.

• Google Chrome
o No issues for me when using Chrome

All computers were running Windows 7 with the most recent updates.

Get rid of the And 1 and just use the traditional prop/add reputation box that a lot of forums use.

There should be the option to negatively or positively prop a user, as well as a display under our username/posts that shows how we've been impacted by said positive/negative props.

If you're going to keep the And1 button, it needs to be MORE visible.

You said that people call it an eyesore but right now it's a useless eyesore... have it highlight the entire post as the count goes up or something to that effect.

Either make it useful or remove it enitrely. If I could scan through a 100 page thread and visibily identify the intelligent posts without having to read everything word for word, I think it would generally improve the level of discourse on the site.

Everytime someone's post is And 1'd, it should be counted on the person's profile as a better indicator of quality than number of posts.

The only problem I see is that it refreshes back to the first page... If it could stay on the existing page that would be nice.

1. Reputation- should be implemented through the and 1 feature. Should not ever go negative.
2. Search for threads- would be really nice and helpful
3. Team Affiliations- just a reminder of that idea I had that you said you were going to implement. Would be awesome! It would let everyone know which teams you like instantly.
4. Longer login time- I hate writing a really long post- like I just did before it got erased by login- and having it delete because you get logged out. It should always stay logged in IMO.

As has been stated by myself and many posters, the biggest issue with the And 1 button is it is COMPLETELY pointless unless you add a global counter. No one is going to check a 3 month old post to see if someone recently And 1'd it, but they would notice their "Rep" increasing if someone And 1'd a 3 month old post.

Those concerned about it being an eyesore are ridiculous and are probably the same people that freak out any time a website changes its layout (see the pointless rage at Facebook and Yahoo). It's 10-15 pixels by 80 pixels total at most ad is not nearly as obnoxious as a lot of sigs on the site. You'll likely be pissing off the same people with any future changes so what's the point in caring what they think?

I stick to firefox almost exclusively and still have constant issues with that feature (or lack there of)

No idea about those 2 sites but Harmony Central went down the toilet as a result of their changes. It was not just due to aesthetics but making it impossible for people to browse user reviews in the same way they could in the past. Granted instances of such total disregard for user input like what happened with HC are rare.

as for the and 1 feature... don't care one way or the other as I will most likely adblock it again if need be.

The And 1 feature isn't making or breaking the aesthetics or usability of the site.
