believe he was signed and then quickly waived in the D League.

His best bet is to hit the Korean Draft at the end of July if he wants to get paid next year.

Do you know if it was injury related, or was he just not good enough?

It looks like some NBA teams really did tell the D-League they were interested in scouting him (and why not really?). So he did get signed. But he never even played in a game. If he'd have gotten hurt in practice or something it would have been reported.

I suspect it was more cheeseburger related than injury related.

True. It is highly likely that he was out of shape after taking so much time off. Still, you never know with these older players and their knees etc.

I always called Othella Harrington the worst player in the NBA when he was in the NBA. He really didn't have any strengths. He just blended in with the other players.
