Wolves Likely To Pursue Garnett For Post-Playing Career Role

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jun 24, 2013 3:40 am

The Minnesota Timberwolves are expected to pursue Kevin Garnett for a ceremonial role in their ownership when he retires from the NBA, according to sources.

Garnett has two seasons remaining on his contract with the Boston Celtics, but may play just one more season before reuniting with Flip Saunders.

"The opportunity will be there for him," one source said, "but there's nothing decided yet."

Garnett was with the Timberwolves from 1995 until his trade to the Celtics in 2007.

Garnett doesn't need a post playing career, he's the richest player in nba history. He's made the most money in both career earnings and endorsements. Garnett's made more cash than both Kobe and Shaq. The only professional basketnall player that's richer than him is Michael jordan, who made most of his fortune through the Jordan brand after he retired. I don't see why someone who's made upwards of 500 million in their career is going to waste their time being a front office exec and make 1 million or less a year. The highest paid gm makes like 5 million a year.

He has not made 500 million in his career, more around 300 which is still more than enough to just kick back and relax. I'm not sure if by "ceremonial role" they mean GM,most likely some head office job where his name is there to excite the fans.

Its a perfect way to get back to the Wolves. Like someone said, Garnett doesn't need money, so he can just enjoy his work without any pressure or financial constraints.

It's more of a symbolic role given to emulate a players loyalty to the organization. Like how Alonzo Mourning has a unspecific front office job with the Heat.
