Wolves Reject Cavs' Offer Of No. 1 Pick, Waiters, Thompson For Kevin Love

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jun 26, 2013 12:30 am

The Cleveland Cavaliers offered the No. 1 overall pick, Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin Love, according to a source.

The Wolves rejected the trade offer and hope to build around Love under Flip Saunders.

The thinking from the Cavaliers' perspective would be to pair Kyrie Irving with a legitimate All-Star in Love.

The Cavaliers have reportedly not decided on who to select first overall and also continue to look for a trade of the selection.

Seems like CLE would be giving up to much in that deal. They should be glad it got turned down.

This! Add that K-Love is an injury liability. Him and Kyrie playing 82 games on the same squad?

That's way too much for a fake superstar like Love. Cleveland should thank their lucky stars Minny said no.

KLove is leaving Minny in 2 years though, maybe they should have accepted it.

That was a poor offer from Cleveland.

2 unproven players and a first overall draft pick ? I value Love more.

That's absurd. Two players that've yet to prove they will ever be in ONE all star game + a crap shoot in a shallow draft is not too much for an established elite all star.

If they did trade away Dion and Tristan and their first , please tell me what their starting lineup would have been being as that Wayne Ellington and CJ Miles are both free agents. I believe both were the #4 pick in the last 2 drafts as well. Tristan averaged almost 12 and 10 and had quiet a few big games. I know hes not Kevin Love , but he played more games than Love last year as well. Also having a 16.12 PER isnt horrible either. For comparison Love had a 17.97 PER but only played 18 games this year.

The draft is weak , I agree , but when you are picking number 1 , you have a chance to get the best player in that draft. They should just draft Alex Len and trade Andy because he is injury prone as well as being on the backside of his career. Pick up a SF in free agency or via trade whether it be Granger , or whoever.

All in all you have to give up a lot to get Kevin Love , but I believe they would have taken a step back giving up too many assets.

Agreed. They should've included their 2014 1st. This shows how they overvalue Waiters and Thompson.

Would of been good for both teams, I'm not sure of Kevin Love wanting to resign with them.

Also, the more that pick is shopped the more value it seems like it loses.

They should have taken it. This time next year everyone will know he's leaving and the offers will be way worse. Minnesota doesn't seem to be trying too hard to win anyway. Seems like they sign every white guy that gets cut by other teams. Strange stuff.

terrible deal for the wolves.

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

Rofl what a garbage deal from the Cavs. Cavs already know they screwed up with those draft picks and are trying to get rid of them.

Wolves aren't going to regret this, they have another year until they even need to worry about trading Love. Sure small market teams might get scared off by the contract situation, but contending teams and all big market teams are going to be very interested because he is a matchup nightmare and frankly one of the best players in the game when healthy.

I think this could have turned out great for the Wolves, Love is injury prone and might leave the franchise soon - so why not get the youngest and deepest team in the league (on rookie contracts as well)?

The #1 pick seems too much of a gamble, so I guess that was the main issue with this offer.

Terrible trade offer by the Cavs, no brainer move by the Wolves to reject that trade. No way you trade a perennial 20/10 big man with 3pt range for a player who'll most likely be a career 6th man in Waiters, an undersized, offensively limited, PF who doesn't block shots in Thompson, and the #1 pick in a draft lacking any elite talent. If the Wolves need to trade Love they can get significantly better offers than that.
