Stephen Curry: Individual Ranking Within Top 10 PGs 'Doesn't Matter'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Aug 24, 2013 4:40 am

Stephen Curry has elevated himself in the conversation of the best point guards in the NBA, and he says he ranks somewhere within the top 10 -- no matter the position.

"Somewhere in there," Curry said. "It doesn't matter. What's the separation? From 1 to 10, is it that much of a drop off where you're like, 'Ahhh, I wish I was higher?' It doesn't make a difference.

"If you're in that group, on any given night you are going to play like you're the best. It's just who can be more consistent."

Curry believes players change depending on a specific criteria regarding point guards, but in his mind, the one constant in any debate is Chris Paul.

"I think the only consistent thing is Chris Paul is in the top two no matter what you say the criteria is, pretty much," Curry said.

He's right. What's a team going to do, trade its top-ten PG plus a boatload of assets for another top-ten PG? At that point, it's about fit on the floor and familiarity with the system/franchise/teammates/city.

Not in order, but these would be in my top 10 PG: Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Tony Parker, Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, Rajon Rondo, Deron Williams, Kyrie Irving, Jrue Holiday, John Wall

Missed the cut: Ty Lawson, Damian Lillard, Ricky Rubio

If you watch or listen to the Grantland podcasts, Jalen Rose gives some pretty good insight on why Tony Parker would be his choice for best PG in the league. Steph Curry is definitely top 5 for sure.

i love steph curry but if were assuming health, hes sitting around 7-9 right now. i cant put him ahead of paul, rose, parker, westbrook, rondo, williams, irving. still pretty good though.

Curry has been better than Williams for a while

i disagree. curry is a better shooter than dwill but thats it. williams is a better passer, defender, and rebounder. he is a much more complete player. and williams may not be the healthiest guy out there, but hes more durable than steph. if im only getting one guy to build around, im taking dwill.

Top 5, no. Top 10, yes. I'd put CP3, Rose, Rondo, Kyrie Irving and Tony Parker before Steph. No disrespect to Steph. I like his game but he's not a complete PG IMO. He's a pure shooter.

You forgot the best point guard in the league, he goes by the name Russell Westbrook and he's good.
