Pistons Made 'Serious Push' To Trade Josh Smith

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Feb 24, 2014 8:36 pm

The Detroit Pistons made "a serious push to find a new home for Josh Smith" at the trade deadline, according to Chad Ford.

Smith signed a four-year, $54 million contract with the Pistons in the offseason. The addition of Smith has caused issues in the frontcourt due to the presence of Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe.

Monroe will be a restricted free agent in the offseason.

So in other words, it was a failure, as everyone predicted it would be.

That escalated quickly...not even a full season together.

Oops. Not Smith's fault Dumars is sloppy with the checkbook. I guess money means more than winning for him though. There were places he could have gone and been a better fit. Like, anywhere without a decent starting PF for one.

"The addition of Smith has caused issues in the frontcourt due to the presence of Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe."

Why would you not think about that BEFORE signing Josh? Good luck trying to find someone dumb enough to take that contract off your hands.

Josh Smith is about the worst player you could possibly have on your team. He commands big money and is a dip **** player who doesnt help your team. This guy wouldnt work no matter where he played, people need to realize that before they give him big money.

Too bad Brian Colangelo wasn't a GM anymore. HE LOVED wasting money on terrible players

Great job Joe Dumba$$ -______- Charlie Villanueva, Ben Gordon, and now Josh Smith. Excellent work sir. You are getting by as a GM from your days as a player and your 1 championship as a GM. You are a horrible GM now and stop using your past to be the reason why you can still be a GM.

The only (bleak) positive I can see is that they were already trying to trade him, admitting their failure early rather than digging deeper.
Making the mistake of signing him in the first place and not being able to offload him is still bad though.

Joe dumars is awful, everyone but him and a couple pistons fans knew this was bad

on a good team, as a PF josh smith would be valuable....on that team, with that roster.....

and they will match a monroe max contract? good god
aol4532 on bill russell
I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

Josh Smith is awesome. He shoots under 25% from three, but does that stop him from chucking them up? Of course not!

So much for that "they must have an ace up their sleeve" idea on those two horrible contract signings... which were definite head-scratchers at the time. Dumars, you ain't no real GM son!

Time for Dumars to go. After the Gordon/Villanueva debacle he should have learned some caution. Signing Josh Smith to such a deal is not exhibiting caution.
