Anthony Davis' Agents Undecided On Extension Plans With Pelicans

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Mar 16, 2015 5:08 pm

Anthony Davis can agree upon a five-year "designated player" extension this offseason with the New Orleans Pelicans.

If signed this offseason, Davis would essentially get a six-year max deal with the big jump in pay beginning in 2016.

Davis is also eligible for the "fifth year 30 percent max criteria" that allows eligible players on rookie deals to get a four-year extension and make up to 30 percent of their team's cap if they reach a certain criteria.

Davis' representatives have not yet decided how to proceed with the Pelicans, two sources said over the weekend.

Davis should either pick the option that pays him the most money or he should pick the one that gets him out of New Orleans. Easy choice really - take the money or go.

Something tells me that this dude wants to win (NCAA Championship, Olympic Gold Medalist, FIBA Gold Medalist). He'll probably opt for whatever option helps him win. Not sure New Orleans can promise that long-term.

He's going to be the best player in the NBA in 3-5 years. Id wait and see what Pelicans do in off-season to add to their depth to make a move in the West

The Lakers will worship you Davis.... Or at least I will.
On Harden being MVP of this season ( I don't even like Harden much)

The trend in recent years has been to wait it out but he may decide to lock in security because he has been hurt pretty often...will be very interesting to see!

How exactly does Davis become unrestricted in 2017? By taking the QO? That would be pretty surprising. To take $9 million instead of 30% of the cap that year, or around $27 million.

That deal would probably be worth something like $120 million so he'd be passing up over $110 million guaranteed money. That would be a pretty risky move.

Good question. Definitely a risky move but I don't see him staying in N.O. I think his shoe deal expires soon & if he can get a Derrick Rose type of deal..I think he takes the qo.

No he isn't.

1.LBJ
2.Curry
3.KD
4.Westbrook
5.Harden

Anthony Davis is a TOP TEN player and is only getting better with each passing year, but as of right now, he's just a stat stuffer

Ridiculous, he's a 3rd year player who has his team battling for the final playoff spot in the almighty west.

LBJ
AD
Curry
Harden
Westbrook

That is this season, KD hasn't played enough.

I'm a Piston fan, no bias here.

It's true if davis signs his qualifying offer - he'd leave upwards of 100M+ in guaranteed money because of the rose rule (lock to get voted in as starter for another asg) and the cap spike in 2016. However Davis plays in new orleans (the smallest market in the nba if not all of pro sports) which is really taking a hit on his marketability if AD could find a route to chicago, la or ny - he could be the next most marketable star in the nba after lebron. And he'd easily regain if not exceed the money he leaves on the table taking a 1 year Qualifying offer contract. He'd also have better chance to win in a bigger city that can attract other star talent around him similar to his kentucky days.

I disagree with this notion that a player such as Davis needs to be in a big market to attract another star. In the world we live in today with social media and the way news travels so quickly it doesn't matter where a player plays. Use the heat (take note I'm a magic fan lol) for example, they're not a big market yet because they already had Wade in place they were able to sign bosh and lbj. Basically, it's not 96 where the likes of Shaq must play in La to attain fame. If you're a mega star, players will want to play with you, the media will come to you and you'll gain fame regardless.

Pretty damn good Stat stuffer, you can argue Top 5, Top 10, Best Big or whatever, but if he can stay healthy, he will be THE MOST DOMINANT PLAYER in the league, he is about to add the three point to his range, wait and see next year!!!

No extension and to Lakers Land!!!

Classifying Miami as a "small market" is all kinds of absurd. Miami-Dade County has 20 million residents and Miami, rightly or wrongly, is one of the most desirable locations for NBA players based on off-court attractions.
