Anthony Bennett Gave Up $2.15M For Butout

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Sep 24, 2015 1:13 am

Anthony Bennett's buyout with the Minnesota Timberwolves was for $3.65 million, while his scheduled salary was for $5.8 million.

If he clears waivers, he may have to sign a minimum salary contract worth $947,000, thereby forfeiting about $1 million from his original salary.

Bennett was unlikely to receive much playing time in the Wolves' crowded frontcourt.

"When you look at our team, our deepest position is probably power forward," Wolves GM Milt Newton said in a statement issued by the team. "This move balances out our roster while also allowing Anthony another opportunity in the NBA. He has a lot of talent and his play this summer internationally made this a difficult decision for us."

That's just stupid on his part.

All the teams with money, Jazz having the most already cleared, well none of them want him.

In virtually every situation ever, if I was asked if I wanted a #1 overall pick to come to my team just using the money you basically already got for waivers.....I would say HELL YEA!

But to kill our 5.2 mil, we would still have to drop someone for the 6-1 mil left, and just not worth it for Bennett.

If his dream is to keep playing in the NBA, then it's the right move to go to a team where he can get minutes and time to develop and hopefully have a long career as a role player.
Otherwise, he should have just stayed on the bench and then go overseas next year when his option wasn't picked up.

He would have looked lame in the eyes of NBA owners if he didn't accept a buy out. Probably would have guaranteed that this was his last contract. Hopefully having a minimum contract and zero expectations will take the pressure off and he will do better.
