Raptors Interested In Trading For P.J. Tucker

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Feb 3, 2016 7:06 pm

The Toronto Raptors are interested in P.J. Tucker of the Phoenix Suns.

Tucker will be a free agent in 2017.

The Suns are likely to see a quality draft pick for Tucker.

There is where T. Ross comes into mind.
Pheonix is short on bodies and it would fit the trend to add another young prospect and Ross has been doing fairly well when he gets his 30+ minutes. A project that the Suns would obviously have no argument taking considering their season.

This might help both teams if they don't give up too much.

Ross, Patterson, Bebe and Raptors first (maybe a future first too) for Tucker, Morris, Price works under the cap. Toronto definitely gets more value as far as talent so it would come down to if the Raptors were willing to part with some picks.

Val/Biyombo
Morris/Scola
Carroll/Tucker
Derozan
Lowry/Joseph

Is a pretty solid 9 man rotation (you'd have Tucker play the 2/3/4 and Joseph playing the 1/2) that could compete with anyone filled with guys that are still improving.

He has whats called a poison pill contract which means that if he was to be traded you would take the average of his salary this year plus his extension which is 35 million total and then divided by 4 which comes out to a little under 8.8 million. Tucker plus Morris have a combined salary of 13.4 million so they would need to add another 3-8 million to make it work under the CBA trade rules, meaning Patrick Patterson or one or two of Scola, Johnson, Biyombo, cash. The Suns would also want at least 1 first round pick as both Morris and Tucker are on team friendly deals.
Go Knicks!

Well since you highlighted the value part, he was correct. Morris is better than Patterson and Tucker is better than Ross. Not sure the upgrade is enough for giving up a 1st round pick let alone 2 and I'm not sure if Morris is worth the risk either though but the Raps do get better players back in the deal.

why the heck would toronto trade two future firsts for Kieff? you are WAY over-rating what he'll garner in a trade. Patrick patterson is about 65% of kieff on offense and 150% of him on defense. His contract is great too. Ross has a poison pill contract, making him hard to move and in your scenario, the raptors lose shooting.

Remove Ross, the first rounder and price.

Patterson/James Johnson/Bebe for Tucker and Kieff. Raps think hard about that one. Markieff's poor defense is counteracted by PJ Tucker and this allows the Raps to throw many bodies at steph curry/lebron come playoff time.

Suns get a 3 year rookie scale contract with upside, they move on from PJ tucker's contract next year (and play TJ warren) and still have a decent PF with no headaches/pouting.

Mozgov got the Nuggets 2 firsts

A Dragic expiring deal net the Suns 2 firsts and let the Heat be the frontrunners to give him what is up there as the worst contract in the league.

I dont really think Morris that big of a risk and he would fit the Suns perfectly and Tucker is a useful player and on a great deal (better than Ross in both ways). The Raptors get the 2 better players and they definitely better with them over Patterson and Ross. Maybe not 2 firsts but I think their own first round pick seems pretty reasonable (they have the Knicks pick anyway).

Bargnani got us a first. Your point?

You're not dealing with a team desperate for the player in question. Neither of the players you mentioned were considered head cases and both were coming off decent seasons.

Tyson Chandler and Omer Asik got that worst contract title. Markieff current value is abysmal. He clearly has talents but all his antics from last year killed its trade value. I think Toronto should throw a 1st and a combination of either Nogueira/Caboclo/Powell/James Johnson for Markieff + Tucker. They are in position of strength, not Phoenix.

Bebe doesnt have much value, especially to a Suns team with Len and Chandler under contract. Zero chance that package interests the Suns.

Perfect. Raps are indifferent otherwise, and both teams can move on. Incidentally, the suns might just be interested in salary relief and in that case, remove Bebe from the trade entirely. Patterson/Johnson/Powell for Markieff and Tucker still works in the checker.
