Hassan Whiteside Wouldn't Want To Be Face Of Losing Franchise

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Mar 5, 2016 4:33 pm

Hassan Whiteside was asked about what he might think of the opportunity to become the franchise player of a team.

Whiteside has emerged as one of the NBA's most productive big men with the Miami Heat and he'll become a free agent this offseason.

"That'd be nice," Whiteside said when asked. "I feel like a lot of people want to be that. But I want to win more than anything. I don't really want to be the face of a losing franchise. You want to be a face of a winning program. And it's always easier to get people to come to Miami."

Whiteside has moved to the bench to accommodate Joe Johnson.

"That'd be nice," Whiteside said as he sat by his locker after a recent game, the subject raised to him, not by him. "I feel like a lot of people want to be that. But I want to win more than anything. I don't really want to be the face of a losing franchise. You want to be a face of a winning program. And it's always easier to get people to come to Miami."

Whiteside's free agency is a difficult one to predict due to how he fits with the team and the fact Miami will have to use cap space to re-sign him.

"It's going to be interesting," he said of his offseason. "The way I think now I might not think at the end of the season. I might have a different perspective. My perspective now is different than when I first came. A lot changed."

as a Knick fan I would not want an oft injured older center that cant shoot free throws for the money he is going to get. we have a cheaper better option in Lopez. We are better off getting a pg and sg players we need

Lol at often injured and can't shoot free throws, he hurt his hand last year and had a strained oblique this year. Nothing about that is injury prone. Also, check his free throw numbers lately rather than spewing garbage. Also, laughable that you call Robin a better option...

Don't know why the article says he moved to the bench to accommodate Joe, he's been on the bench way before Joe even came here.

I don't disagree with wanting to spend money on PG and SG, but to say that Robin is better than Whiteside is nuts. Whiteside's production blows Robin's out of the water

..........and that's why the knicks will continue to suck for seasons to come.
Often i see comments like that by knicks fans.
IF whiteside was playing in NY though, right now we would be reading something like "he is the best C of the league hands down".
Just like the entire fanbase got superexcited with the Porzingis case.
Which ain't a bad thing(on the contrary) as long as you guys do not post things like "he is better than KAT", "he is more talented than antetokounmpo", "all rookies of that draft ain't got **** on KP" etc.
You can just be happy for a very talented youngster. End it there.

You can't just applaud your young stars, and bury every other youth talent of the league just because you are jealous.
If you guys were champs or something similar i could have understand some hyperbole statements. But you are not champs. Not even close to that.
Whiteside on NY would be an AMAZING fit. I mean.....better option in lopez???????????? REALLY?

knicks have money tied up in robin lopez who is serviceable at center. Although he isnt as good as whiteside, our money should be used for a pg/sg.

Whiteside is going to demand top dollar, close to max money like jordan did last year. He needs to stay with miami or go to a team with stars already aligned, and be the missing piece.
I beg to differ

That'd be nice. I feel like a lot of people want to be that. But I want to win more than anything. I don't really want to be the face of a losing franchise. You want to be a face of a winning program. And it's always easier to get people to come to Miami.

If a losing franchise offers the most money, he'll have a change of heart.

Due to timezone(i'm european) the heat, the knicks, the celtics and the bucks are the teams i've watched the most.
He is an awesome rim protector. One of the best in the league.
Plus he has something that guys like lopez(no offense to the guy, think he is decent player) will not find in a lifetime.
He is fun to watch. A pleasure for the eye. I would overpay tickets to watch whiteside play.
To feel his energy, to share the enthusiasm. You need this kind of thing and only porzingis will not do.

Rolo can't grab a rebound dude....
Whiteside is capable of dominating both ends of the floor in a few mins.
His jumper is very good for his size, he has a decent hook and there's no easier bucket in the league than throwing it up for him to slam it down. EASY points.
Defensively, only the fact that opponents think twice before attempting a drive in his presence, speaks for itself.
He is worthy of a max contract and he will get it.
If the heat leave whiteside walk, my opinion is that NY must make the move.
In the end of the day, that's how i see it. 8-)
