Pelicans Waive Alonzo Gee, Keep Lance Stephenson

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Oct 24, 2016 2:56 pm

The New Orleans Pelicans have waived forward Alonzo Gee and will keep Lance Stephenson on their regular season roster.

Gee, 6-6, 225, has appeared in 73 career games with New Orleans, averaging 4.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 0.9 steals in 22.4 minutes per game. Gee was originally signed by New Orleans on July 16, 2015.

Gee is owed his full $1.2 million while Stephenson came to camp with just $100,000 of his minimum salary guaranteed.

New Orleans’ roster now stands at 15.

Gee was the better defender but they needed someone that could make a play and handle the ball a little more.

Just reminds me how overrate that Pacers team was a few years ago.

Lance Stephenson is struggling to find a roster spot, Roy Hibbert is struggling to stay on the court, and Paul George is struggling to keep his FG% above 40% and his Ast/TO ratio above 1.0, and Frank Vogel was fired.

I think it's team chemistry rather than overrated. Piece by piece (Especially Stephenson and Hibbert) is not as good as that team.

To me its a testament to how great Frank Vogel and that coaching staff was at maximizing each player's potential and skillset. I think Larry's going to regret letting Vogel go. Was the perfect coach for that team/city and actually had them playing fairly competitively with a flawed roster last season. If given the assets they have now I think he'd have gotten this team to be somewhere on par with last year's Raptors.
