Marcus Smart Apologizes For Flare-Up With Assistants

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jan 25, 2017 3:51 pm

Marcus Smart had a brief-but-animated flare-up with assistant coaches late in the fourth quarter of the Boston Celtics' 123-108 loss to the Washington Wizards. Smart was sent to the locker room before the end of the game.

Smart had played 17 of the first 20 minutes of the second half but was subbed out with four minutes remaining and the Celtics trailing by 13 points. Approximately one minute later, Smart started to walk toward the scorer's table to check back in but Brad Stevens immediately followed him.

Smart returned to the bench at that point and sat down in the huddle as if he was re-entering the game. Some of Boston's assistant coaches attempted to remove him, but Smart was shown on the television broadcast having a heated exchange with assistants Jerome Allen and Jamie Young, which included waving a towel in their direction as Stevens sat in front of the huddle.

"So he just wanted to go back in. And he had played 12 [consecutive] minutes or whatever, so he wasn't going to go back in," Stevens told reporters in Washington.

Pressed on why Smart appeared upset, Stevens added, "He wanted to go back in badly."

Smart was asked about the situation as well.

"Just coaches and players, they're real passionate about the game and hate losing and having different opinions about certain things in the game," Smart told reporters in Washington. "Of course, I wanted to go back in. Just like everybody else to play it out and give it everything they had and leave it on the court. We had different opinions on that."

Smart later apologized on Twitter.

Smart, Thomas, Crawford. They act like a bunch of entitled spoiled brats who achieved nothing while acting like super stars. Their team would be fighting for the 6-8 seeds if they were in the West.

What an idiotic post.

1. Who is Crawford? If you're gonna diss Jae Crowder get his name right.

2. Isaiah acts like he's entitled?
He was the last pick in the 2011 Draft, played 3 years in college, has had to justify his role with every Team that he has played on because of his height. 5'9 guy playing in a league where the average height is 6'7. He went from being a fringe starter to 2nd in the league in scoring.

3. Marcus had a moment. He's passionate and didn't want to be taken out after a 12-minute stretch and later apologized to his fans, teammates, and coaches when he didn't have to. There's nothing spoiled or entitled to his game. He puts time in off the court to improve his game and works harder than 99% of the players on the court defensively.

Also don't give me that "if they were the West" BS. Players have a right to choose which teams they join, GMs have a right to trade. There's never suddenly going to be 16 Teams in one conference with 14 Teams in the other conference. Celtics are 3rd in the East which is fine. They've lost 3 straight. They have defensive issues. Don't make nonsense baseless statements without backing them up.

Actually, the OP is correct. If the Celtics were in the West, they'd be fighting for a 6-8 seed while waiting to get blown out by GS, SAS, or HOU in the first round. And that's just assuming Boston would have the same record in the West - don't forget they'd also play West teams 4 times a year instead of the horrible, below-average East teams 4 times.
