I always try to explain to non-sports people what makes basketball/sports so great in general.
Maybe it's less "political" climate, but just overall "world" climate... There's a lot of negativity out there. Go to any News website, or open up the paper and you'll see something you won't like. But sports being a positive "distraction" is very true. Many of us here probably get enjoyment from going outside to play basketball, but there's something more special about watching the best-in-the-world play (instead of us hitting 1 out 10 shots -- just speaking for myself tho). Maybe we're living vicariously through our Team's athletes, maybe it gives us a sense of pride in our home town/areas. But at the end of the day, it's pretty much always a POSITIVE take-away. My 2 cents. Even with a sub-par Dunk Contest, it was a pretty good ASG this year.
