Judge Rules Ja Morant Acted In Self-Defense Punching Teenager

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Apr 9, 2024 6:58 pm

A Tennessee judge ruled Ja Morant fairly acted in self-defense when he punched a teenager at his home in July 2022.

The ruling comes after a December 2023 civil immunity hearing in Memphis, where Morant testified that he "swung first" at Joshua Holloway, then 17, to protect himself during an altercation that led to Holloway filing a September 2022 lawsuit accusing Morant of assault.

The fight occurred during a pickup basketball game.

Holloway, allegedly frustrated by losing several games, was accused of throwing a one-handed pass at Morant during a check-ball situation.

The ball hit Morant in the face, after which Morant said Holloway took a step toward him and that he then stepped forward and punched Holloway.

Self-defense against a teenager that poses no threat sounds so crazy reading and saying out loud...

Wait, so the judges reason is he got hit with a basketball (while playing basketball) and that the kid "took a step towards him".

If the kid had it coming he had it coming, but lmao if you think a judge will ever side with you for those same reasons unless you're rich.

Yeah, my guess is that if his name wasn't Ja Morant from the Memphis Grizzlies, he'd be guilty.

He was being aggressive then step towards him.

Yeah a lot of people will punch you then. Some slams something and then comes at you.

Only psychopath does that.

Clearly, the court has more details, and witnesses that would describe the body language etc. If someone steps up to you, you feel strongly they are going to hit you, do you wait to be knocked so you can hit them back in the name of self-defense?

Sounds like thuggish mentality, "He looked at me in a threatening way so I punched him. It was self defense."

By the same token, if his name wasn't Ja Morant from the Memphis Grizzlies, then he wouldn't have been sued in a personal injury suit for a common skirmish at a pickup game

I do have to hate memphis & not be too fond of Ja or his look, but i'm glad the judge ruled correctly. About bleeping time the instigator is punished. Dumb teenager shouldn't have challenged an all-star to a pickup game, fool actually thought he was gonna win.
