Tobias Harris Expected To Receive Interest From Pistons

The Detroit Pistons could pursue Tobias Harris in free agency, sources tell Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer. The Pistons are attempting to accelerate their rebuild and could use a veteran presence on the wing.

Harris is coming off a five-year, $180 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Pompey also writes that "Harris may be as good as gone" from the Sixers this offseason.

Harris was traded by the Orlando Magic to the Pistons in 2016 shortly after signing a four-year, $64 million deal. Harris was subsequently part of a 2018 trade to the Los Angeles Clippers for Blake Griffin. Harris was traded in 2019 to the Sixers.

I didn't read that PHI was rebuilding anywhere above... but they will unquestionably be revamping that roster. They have very few players under contract next season.

Harris was a good/above average player at age 26. Unfortunately the sixers (like many teams) overpaid for him at 5/180 million (max contract at that time was around 190/195 million )

He was really around 20-25 million per year but teams do this all the time.

As for choosing him over jimmy butler. The sixers clearly misjudge 5 full years guarantee butler wants. From all accounts. Sixers didn’t want to fully guarantee the contract for all 5 years.

Celtics did this with big Al and he walked as well. Al wanted 4 years guarantee and Celtics only partially wanted to guarantee the 4th year.

Harris never live up to his current contract, but he will likely get another near max contract again, given the poor free agent selection and Detriot's desperate attempt to improve (they already overpaid for a coach).

Those fans are terrible to him. Like, if he just played a little harder they'd have a couple of banners already. News flash: Tobias is not the problem.

Anywhere but Detroit and phi - go to Miami and have a good time and play meaningful minutes for a good franchise
